Marines Remember


The proud warriors of Baker Company wanted to do something to pay tribute To our fallen comrades.

So since we are part of the only Marine Infantry Battalion left in Iraq the one way that we could think of doing that is By taking a picture of Baker Company saying the way we feel.

It would be awesome if you could find a way to share this with our fellow countrymen. Iwas wondering if there was any way to get this into your papers to let the world know that "WE HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN" and are proud to serve our country."

If you have bothered to read any of my previous blogs you would see I have ASKED the question of why MORE wasn't done. Why wasn't the Natn. Guard called if there were not enough vehicles to transport the poor and the infirm out of New Orleans?

Why weren't city buses used? This was a city where most of the poor used buses to get around town.

Reality is, there WAS enough transportation to help the people of New Orleans. It just was NOT USED. Who does that fall on? Not the President of the United States who has NO Way of knowing what New Orleans resources are.

NOPE honey, this falls at the local and state level of leadership--which happens to be democrat—THEY ARE THE ONES WHO FAILED NEW ORLEANS.


As for your snidely; and I might add, badly written; comment that conservatives want all black people on the back of the bus~~where do you get the idea that I want that? Where in ANY of my blogs do I show I want blacks at the back of the bus? What makes you think I’m NOT black myself? Really, how do you know?

I know all you yankee liberals think all white people in the south belong to the ku klux klan and that ALL blacks are democrats. The reality is, we cannot stand the klan and what they stand for; and there are some blacks who are conservatives.

I suspect that was the best you could come up with since the pictures clearly show what the difference is between democrat leadership and republican leadership and the PROOF angered you.

Finally wonderbread, do not presume to know what conservatives are thinking, because darlin' you don't have a clue.

Since my blog site just upsets your delicate sensibilities, I have a simple solution for you: don't come back. Go lurk at the liberal sites.

Because in reality, liberals will never "get it".

Hurricane Rita


Ahhh, Hurricane Rita

Practically right after Katrina. Still think we are not receiving judgments America? How about the earthquake near Los Angeles yesterday and today's aftershock?

What will it take to convince Americans that God is angry with us? He has continued to bless us for all my lifetime~~over 40 years~~when we really no longer deserved it.

How can we stop these judgments? It is so simple. REPENT. But too many of us have the old sin of pride keeping us from repenting. That is the hubris of an educated, intelligent, analyzing, thinking person. Someone who no longer needs the "crutch" of a Savior. It is our very arrogance that demands we be judged.

Now, forgive me, I will have to blog more later as I must go prepare for this one. This massive storm is not going to do what most hurricanes do~~that is dissipate once it hits land.

No, this monster is heading inland with sustained winds that will spawn tornados. Or so I have been told. Therefore, I must go sterilize the bathtub and fill it with water. As for 'stocking' up~~ forget it. Wal-Mart and Brookshires have only stripped shelves left~~this on the Ark-La-Tex border!

Update:
Well, Praise God but Rita was not as bad as she could have been! Our area did have some wind~~we lost power for about 7 hours~~but the rain was sorely needed and was for the most part gentle enough to be absorbed by the very parched earth. So we are truly thankful! Today was a glorious azure blue sky and sunny Sunday.

Oh, and Wal-Mart and Brookshire's are both completely restocked!

Travel mercies for all those who are heading home and prayers that you will find no damage or just slight damage that can be easily repaired.

Comfort: sure we can, with some planning and everyone staying cool and collected, it can be done.

Just think how quickly some "disasters" occur! Hurricanes give you a short time period to plan and do. But if you wait until the last minute, you get stuck in the above. Shoot, the freeways use to look like this every evening starting at 5 p.m. when I lived there 7 years ago. Can only imagine how much more they are congested now.

I remember Houston being nearly 6 million when I lived there. ??? Wonder if they had added in all of us surrounding areas~~coastal and land locked side back then......?

I love the coast. It is truly one of the most beautiful areas. But I do not miss the stress of hurricane season~~especially when it is one storm after another. That kind of stress justs takes its toll on a body.

Good luck. I just don't see how that is feasible. I could not begin to imagine a place such as New York City trying to evacuate.

WHO in the main stream media is a conservative? Because I would really like to hear them as a commentator. The main stream media do not have conservatives working for them much less presenting the news!

Nope, the main stream media is ALL yours Ms. vanden Heuvel~~that is they are ALL liberal left. They will not give time to anyone who is conservative right.

For YEARS, conservatives have had to get their news from news radio. Finally, a few cable shows and Fox news came along and presents a more truthful telling of the news~~but they are one among many.

CBS, ABC, NBC, CNN, MSNBC and name any newspaper~~they are ALL liberal in their news presentation and they all have their own agenda. It is obvious to anyone who can hear; much less think.

They all praise the Clintons and bash the Bushes. Where has there been any fairness in regards to both presidencies? The Clintons were riddled with scandals~~not just one. Yet liberals consider them scions to applaud. While the Bushes are not perfect, they HAVE done some things right. Where is the reporting on this?

Just where is the "truth in reporting" in regards to either?

Journalism, whether the written word or viewed on TV, should be presenting the news in a non-biased way FAVORING NO ONE. They should be reporting what they have seen and what they have heard without embellishments or exaggerations; without presenting their own viewpoints and biases. I don't need to be told how to think~~many Americans would agree with me.

You can rant and rave all you want, but just like you liberals, Conservatives’ freedom of speech is guaranteed by the constitution of the United States and Bill of Rights. If we ever lose that right, you need to worry; because it could happen to you tomorrow.

In Germany they came first for the communists, and I didn't speak up--because I wasn't a communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up--because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up--because I wasn't a trade unionist. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn't speak up--because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me--and by this time there was no one left to speak up.

EUTHANASIA WARS

America, our government is at it again. As if the horrendous murder of Terry Schiavo was not enough earlier this year, the Missouri State Assembly along with their Gov. Matt Blunt has drastically cut Medicaid expenditures.

I know we need to tighten our belts. But we cannot do so at the expense of the health of even one person in our country. Rather, why don't these men and women in government take a pay cut? Like the rest of us, they can live on less money.

Their tax cuts are declaring that some health-care items can now be designated as "optional equipment,"~~ this includes feeding tubes, nutritional formula, and ventilators! Once Medicaid has denied something, it is nearly IMPOSSIBLE to get that item covered again.

Since when did any of the above mentioned items become "optional" in the care of even one individual? They are not optional items. And by allowing them to be designated as such is sanctioning the death penalty on more innocent Americans, because not all families will be able to afford these items! Once again, the poor pay the price.

I don't want to hear societies' excuse of "quality of life". Ultimately, IF IT IS YOUR LIFE, it has quality; but if it is someone else's, too many of you are too quick to "pull the plug".

I was truly appalled at how many Americans wanted to do just that to Terri Schiavo. She was not in a comatose state. And what a horrible way to die. This country allowed a woman to starve and dehydrate to death. When we can treat prisoners or animals better than honest citizens, then something has gone horribly wrong. Death comes to all of us. It comes at its own time. Just who are any of us to determine when it is time for someone ill or mentally handicapped to die? Since when, America, have we become god?

Yeah, some of you are out there saying, "well, I don't believe in God."


My response: Then I sure don't want YOU determining my fate! You have no respect for the sanctity of human life. Why should you, when you believe we oozed out of the primordial muck. Or you believe that abortion is ok. So, of course, it is ok to murder someone who is brain damaged, retarded, imperfect.

Perhaps the Terry Schiavo's of this world do not contribute to it. But that does not make their lives any less precious~~someone loves them and cares for them. I know God does; whether you believe in Him or not!

Jeremiah 1:5 "I knew you before I formed you in your mother's womb. Before you were born, I set you apart and appointed you as my spokesman to the world."

If God can say this to Jeremiah, He can say it to you! He can say it to all of us.

I just don't believe any government branch should have the right to decide that a brain damaged individual is deserving of the death penalty. Because that is exactly what Terri was given. What was her crime?

Giving the judicial branch this kind of power is truly a mistake. Firstly, because they are not the branch to "make laws". They are to enforce the laws of the land, nothing more. Secondly,it opens a lot of doors that should NOT be opened.

Will they next determine that all preemies should die because it is very expensive to try to save these little babies. Or what if you have a Down’s syndrome or autistic child? What can possibly be their contribution to society? Many of them will never live normal lives and may in fact drain the coffers of society through social security and other programs. Will they decree that you must abort these babies?

What about people who have Alzheimer’s? They no longer contribute to society. What about old people in general? Wow, think of the money that could be saved if the Supreme Court decided that at age 65 you are no longer productive, so for the betterment of your country you have to die. (Sounds like a movie......) Watch out aging boomers~~you who are really going to drain Social Security!

Finally, what about welfare recipients? They surely do not contribute to society. Shall they go on the supreme courts ‘soon to die’ list?

This just smacks too much of Hitler and his socially engineered programs of elimination. The whole world professes SHOCK that it happened in Germany. Yet, here it is happening in modern day America!

It should NEVER have been allowed to start.

I believe we need to let the court know that it went too far and created powers they do not have and it will not be tolerated.

We the people, will not tolerate this flagrant abuse. That ultimately, the government, the courts, and even the President answer to the American people. They are our employees. And it is time to remind them of this fact. Because too many in government feel like they do not have to answer to anyone. The power they have~~given to them in trust ‘by the people’~~is being abused.

Missourians, you better let your governor and state assembly know right now this illegal attempt to murder your loved ones will not be tolerated.

Everyone should be guaranteed their Constitutional Rights~~especially all the Terry Schiavo's of our country!

Finally, “Speak up America.” Be heard. If you don’t fight for your constitutional rights NOW, you will NOT have any tomorrow.

And it will be your children and grandchildren who will pay the price for your laziness.

Doctor ordered to stop treatment by FEMA

Doctor says FEMA ordered him to stop treating hurricane victims

FYI: As shocking as this sounds, it is in all probability true.

What I have learned in recent weeks: You may NOT enter a disaster zone if you have not received training by either FEMA, Red Cross, or the Southern Baptists Disaster Relief through the North American Mission Board.

Also, you may have the facilities to become a Red Cross shelter, but you will NOT receive the credentials you need AFTER a disaster has hit. It needs to be done prior to the disaster.

Finally, all food items donated are checked for expiration dates. If they have expired, they are thrown out. Good intentions aside, do not donate expired food. It will NOT be used.

~~~ Unfortunately, in our "sue" happy society, this IS what it has come down to. Sometimes, people, we are our own worst enemies. By suing at the drop of the hat over stupid doo-doo, we have damaged beyond repair the ability to just jump in and get it done. Let's face it, citizens could do a lot of things faster than the government because of all their red-tape bureaucracy.

ACLU's founder was a card carrying Communist

Communism doesn't work. Only the top echelon will have the wealth. The corruption at the top is massive. The lower rungs of society, no matter how industrious or creative they are will ever reach that top echelon.

Why would the ACLU be working toward the destruction of the free enterprise system this country is based on?

Who knows? But the fact is, they are doing exactly that and using tax payer money to do it!

Roger Baldwin was the founder of the ACLU. He was a card carrying communist whose goals were to make America a land of communism. Baldwin -- 15 years after founding the ACLU -- wrote: "I am for Socialism, disarmament and ultimately, for the abolishing of the State itself ... I seek the social ownership of property, the abolition of the propertied class and sole control of those who produce wealth. Communism is the goal."(1)

Since communism will not work if there is an active Judeo-Christian society then they MUST attack all things pertaining to religious beliefs or thoughts.

What is truly scary and infuriating is that they are using tax payer money to accomplish their goals and we are financing our own ruin!

Taxpayers had to shell out nearly half a million dollars to the ACLU when it won a case that forced former Alabama Chief Justice Roy Moore (2) to remove a publicly displayed Ten Commandments monument in Montgomery. (3)

An Unnatural Disaster: A Hurricane Exposes the Man-Made Disaster of the Welfare State

It has taken four long days for state and federal officials to figure out how to deal with the disaster in New Orleans. I can't blame them, because it has also taken me four long days to figure out what is going on there.

The reason is that the events there make no sense if you think that we are confronting a natural disaster.

If this is just a natural disaster, the response for public officials is obvious: you bring in food, water, and doctors; you send transportation to evacuate refugees to temporary shelters; you send engineers to stop the flooding and rebuild the city's infrastructure.

For journalists, natural disasters also have a familiar pattern: the heroism of ordinary people pulling together to survive; the hard work and dedication of doctors, nurses, and rescue workers; the steps being taken to clean up and rebuild.

Public officials did not expect that the first thing they would have to do is to send thousands of armed troops in armored vehicle, as if they are suppressing an enemy insurgency. And journalists--myself included—did not expect that the story would not be about rain, wind, and flooding, but about rape, murder, and looting.

But this is not a natural disaster. It is a man-made disaster. The man-made disaster is not an inadequate or incompetent response by federal relief agencies, and it was not directly caused by Hurricane Katrina. This is where just about every newspaper and television channel has gotten the story wrong.

The man-made disaster we are now witnessing in New Orleans did not happen over the past four days. It happened over the past four decades. [more like the past 7 1/2 decades~~FDR began the welfare state durning the Great Depression of the 1930's~~at that time it was needed; but after the crisis was over, the welfare state persisted.] Hurricane Katrina merely exposed it to public view. The man-made disaster is the welfare state.

For the past few days, I have found the news from New Orleans to be confusing. People were not behaving as you would expect them to behave in an emergency--indeed, they were not behaving as they have behaved in other emergencies.

That is what has shocked so many people: they have been saying that this is not what we expect from America. In fact, it is not even what we expect from a Third World country. When confronted with a disaster, people usually rise to the occasion. They work together to rescue people in danger, and they spontaneously organize to keep order and solve problems.

This is especially true in America. We are an enterprising people, used to relying on our own initiative rather than waiting around for the government to take care of us. I have seen this a hundred times, in small examples (a small town whose main traffic light had gone out, causing ordinary citizens to get out of their cars and serve as impromptu traffic cops, directing cars through the intersection) and large ones (the spontaneous response of New Yorkers to September 11).

So what explains the chaos in New Orleans? To give you an idea of the magnitude of what is going on, here is a description from a Washington Times story: [view it here: Washington Times]

"Storm victims are raped and beaten; fights erupt with flying fists, knives and guns; fires are breaking out; corpses litter the streets; and police and rescue helicopters are repeatedly fired on. " The plea from Mayor C. Ray Nagin came even as National Guardsmen poured in to restore order and stop the looting, carjackings and gunfire.... "Last night, Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco said 300 Iraq-hardened Arkansas National Guard members were inside New Orleans with shoot-to-kill orders. "'These troops are...under my orders to restore order in the streets,' she said. 'They have M-16s, and they are locked and loaded. These troops know how to shoot and kill and they are more than willing to do so if necessary and I expect they will.' "

The reference to Iraq is eerie. The photo that accompanies this article shows National Guard troops, with rifles and armored vests, riding on an armored vehicle through trash-strewn streets lined by a rabble of squalid, listless people, one of whom appears to be yelling at them. It looks exactly like a scene from Sadr City in Baghdad.

What explains bands of thugs using a natural disaster as an excuse for an orgy of looting, armed robbery, and rape? What causes unruly mobs to storm the very buses that have arrived to evacuate them, causing the drivers to drive away, frightened for their lives?

What causes people to attack the doctors trying to treat patients at the Super Dome? Why are people responding to natural destruction by causing further destruction? Why are they attacking the people who are trying to help them?

My wife, Sherri, figured it out first, and she figured it out on a sense-of-life level. While watching the coverage last night on Fox News Channel, she told me that she was getting a familiar feeling. She studied architecture at the Illinois Institute of Chicago, which is located in the South Side of Chicago just blocks away from the Robert Taylor Homes, one of the largest high-rise public housing projects in America. "The projects,"as they were known, were infamous for uncontrollable crime and irremediable squalor. (They have since, mercifully, been demolished.)

What Sherri was getting from last night's television coverage was a whiff of the sense of life of "the projects." Then the "crawl"—the informational phrases flashed at the bottom of the screen on most news channels—gave some vital statistics to confirm this sense: 75% of the residents of New Orleans had already evacuated before the hurricane, and of the 300,000 or so who remained, a large number were from the city's public housing projects.

Jack Wakeland then gave me an additional, crucial fact: early reports from CNN and Fox indicated that the city had no plan for evacuating all of the prisoners in the city's jails--so they just let many of them loose. [ Tough. If that is 'mean'; too bad. All they did was make a bad situation worse. How could anybody expect otherwise? These people are in jail for a reason. They do NOT add one positive thing to society. Rather, they are leeches.] There is no doubt a significant overlap between these two populations--that is, a large number of people in the jails used to live in the housing projects, and vice versa.

There were many decent, innocent people trapped in New Orleans when the deluge hit--but they were trapped alongside large numbers of people from two groups: criminals--and wards of the welfare state, people selected, over decades, for their lack of initiative and self-induced helplessness. The welfare wards were a mass of sheep [these are the people to whom you must tell them what to do as they are incapable of thinking for themselves any longer]--on whom the incompetent administration of New Orleans unleashed a pack of wolves. All of this is related, incidentally, to the apparent incompetence of the city government, which failed to plan for a total evacuation of the city, despite the knowledge that this might be necessary.

But in a city corrupted by the welfare state [Don't forget this was Huey Long territory], the job of city officials is to ensure the flow of handouts to welfare recipients [welfare should exist only for the elderly and severly handicapped. If you are young~~ you WORK, or you don't eat. Too many young, healthy, but ignorant people are on the welfare rolls~~they are only capable of doing menial labor, which is HARD work; and feel insulted that they should have to do so. If you don't have an education, you work the lower rungs of societal jobs. While America provides a 'free' education, the parents are not demanding that their children learn and the children could care less.] and patronage to political supporters--not to ensure a lawful, orderly evacuation in case of emergency.

No one has really reported this story, as far as I can tell. In fact, some are already actively distorting it, blaming President Bush, for example, for failing to personally ensure that the Mayor of New Orleans had drafted an adequate evacuation plan. The worst example is an execrable piece from the Toronto Globe and Mail, by a supercilious Canadian who blames the chaos on American "individualism."

But the truth is precisely the opposite: the chaos was caused by a system that was the exact opposite of individualism. [If individualism still existed in all layers of society, we wouldn't have the 'sheep' syndrome. But in order for the new world order to come into being, society has to be 'led' to it~~ America has been groomed for the sheep syndrome.]

What Hurricane Katrina exposed was the psychological consequences of the welfare state. What we consider "normal" behavior in an emergency is behavior that is normal for people who have values and take the responsibility to pursue and protect them. People with values respond to a disaster by fighting against it and doing whatever it takes to overcome the difficulties they face. They don't sit around and complain that the government hasn't taken care of them. They don't use the chaos of a disaster as an opportunity to prey on their fellow men.

But what about criminals and welfare parasites? Do they worry about saving their houses and property? They don't, because they don't own anything. Do they worry about what is going to happen to their businesses or how they are going to make a living? They never worried about those things before. Do they worry about crime and looting? But living off of stolen wealth is a way of life for them.

The welfare state--and the brutish, uncivilized mentality it sustains and encourages--is the man-made disaster that explains the moral ugliness that has swamped New Orleans.

And that is the story that no one is reporting.

The Lure of Porn

I don't watch much television. But I did enjoy watching "Friends" on occasion. I liked their closeness and the way they always supported each other. It was a wonderful example of friendship. But the one thing I never did like was the way they "viewed" pornography as a normal healthy past time.


This is just proof that those in tv land; the writers, directors, producers, and yes, the actors; all have a world view rather than a Godly view of life. And they are lazy in their research.

Because if in fact they had bothered to research the affects of pornography, they would have discovered that it has caused only harm in this world. Perhaps then they would not have portrayed it as fun or cool or consequence free!

It exploits women and now quite frequently children~~child molestation is on the rise~~ all because pornography has desensitized the public to things that were once considered taboo. It becomes addictive. It destroys marriages and I would assume even living- together types of arrangements. People surfing porn sites at work are fired. Lives are destroyed.

Had the show done any research, I'm sure there were countless victims of pornography that would have shared how it harmed their families, and their lives.

It is NOT art. That is just an easy excuse to use to justify doing "what you want to do," damn the consequences. (Said like a petulant two year old.)

What I would like to see and TV land ought to do on their own before federal regulations step in, is to keep these type of shows on cable where they belong. Then allow the public to choose what cable channels they want to come into their homes. Until this happens, I will continue to live without tv. Quite frankly, I really am not missing much.

In 2003, 47% of Christians said pornography was a serious problem at home. That is nearly half!

If you profess to be a Christian then you need to stop viewing pornography. You need to walk the walk not just talk the talk. Hypocrisy like this harms all Christians everywhere~~making it tougher for all of us to be effective witnesses.

No one says they are going to grow up to become an addict. But it happens all too often~~all because of peer pressure; temptation; curiosity; or lack of self-control.

Meanwhile, what can you do if you are hooked on pornography? You can break these bonds. There is help. These organizations help the addict break free:
Dynamic Living for Men (DLM); Faithful and True Ministries; Harvest USA; Christians for Sexual Integrity; and Pure Life Ministries.

He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can't stand up against it. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it."


The best advice to those out there who have not surfed the web for pornography: Don't Start! Once you open that door even an inch, it will slam wide open and devour you.

ALTERNATIVE ENERGY

...An expert on the science of energy and oil production is spreading the message that, when it comes to oil supply meeting demand, the world is running out of time. Engineer, entrepreneur, and former oil industry executive Tom Mast says the urgent need to develop energy alternatives is being ignored. Mast's book is called Over a Barrel: a Simple Guide to the Oil Shortage (Hayden Publishing, 2005). It is designed to be a quick-read primer and includes discussion of the near-future crisis called "peak oil." That day is coming, Mast says, when the whole world's oil production begins to decline and eventually drops below the point where the demand exceeds supply. "This happens to oil wells, it happens to oil fields, and it happens to larger geographic areas like the United States, or the entire world," he says. The energy expert expects that critical point to be reached within the next few years. The problem, he adds, is that no one, including the U.S. -- which leads the world in oil consumption -- has put enough resources into developing alternative energy sources like hydrogen, nuclear energy, or solar energy. "All have technical or social problems or both that are pretty knotty, pretty difficult to solve," Mast says, "and we're just not trying very hard to solve them." With transportation and industries 97 percent dependent on oil, he asserts that peak oil is a disaster waiting to happen, one that can be expected "to lead to shortages of oil that are going to drive the price of oil way up. In the beginning that will be inflationary, but later it will lead to recessions and likely to increased contention, perhaps even armed conflict, for the remaining oil in the world." Mast says it is imperative for U.S. consumers to start learning now how to cut down and conserve.

They nearly destroyed the solar energy technology from the 1970's. They certainly crippled it.

Because it was costing THEM money.

Their lobbyists worked hard getting what they wanted and strangling the funding for the people who were trying to advance the technology of alternate fuel sources.

Attack of the Jihadist Judge

Another Jihadist Judge, oh excuse me, I mean a Liberal Judge has once again determined that what is good for a small group of people is good for ALL the people.

U.S. District Judge Lawrence Karlton has ruled the pledge of allegiance to be unconstitutional.

The judge ruled that the Pledge's reference to one nation "under God" violates school children's right to be "free from a coercive requirement to affirm God."

His contention that it violates the student’s rights is wrong for two reasons. Firstly, several minority religious groups do not say the pledge at all. They consider it idolatry to do so. These students are NOT ostracized for their beliefs.

Therefore, why cannot the atheists do the same? These children would not be ostracized for refusing to say the pledge (recently, when have you seen anyone ostracized for their beliefs in the public schools~~other than Christians that is…..)

Secondly, they argue that inclusion of the two words "under God" in the Pledge violates the so-called separation of church and state. But “if the Pledge established or tended to establish a religion, then that would have happened during the past 50 years of its existence.” **

It has NOT done so.

Just as the liberals’ agenda is to revoke freedom of speech from conservative Christians; atheists have an agenda to revoke religious freedom from us as well.

Just because you don’t agree with people of faith, who are you to try to deny us our rights to those beliefs? We are Americans as well. We are ruled by the same Constitution. I am not trying to force you to my beliefs; why are you trying to force me to yours?

Christians, it is time to make your stand. You no longer can afford the luxury of straddling that fence. You must choose.

2 Timothy 2:12 “…if we deny Him, He will deny us.”

You must take action. Write the President. Write your congressmen. Vote on important issues. Get out and pass out pamphlets if necessary to educate the public. Start a phone-in campaign where you call the people in your community to talk about the issues. Get them to call in to the White House and Congress.

Believe me, the other side is doing exactly this.

If we don’t make the effort, then one day we wake up in an America where religious freedom is GONE; where freedom of speech is DEAD. This is NOT the America I want my son to inherit.

I don’t want it said that I was just too busy trying to make ends meet that I let those freedoms go without a fight.

A good history lesson that we all should read. Patrick Henry is not quoted properly in our present day school texts. "Give me liberty or give me death" is not exactly all that he said or why!

Did you know that 52 of the 55 signers of the Declaration of Independence were orthodox, deeply-committed Christians? The other three all believed in the Bible as the divine truth, the God of scripture, and His personal intervention. It is the same Congress that formed the American Bible Society. Immediately after creating the Declaration of Independence, the Continental Congress voted to purchase and import
20,000 copies of scripture for the people of this nation.


Patrick Henry, who is called the firebrand of the American Revolution, is still remembered for his words, "Give me liberty or give me death". But in current textbooks the context of these words is deleted. Here is what he said:"An appeal to arms and the God of hosts is all that is left us. But we shall not fight our battle alone. There is a just God that presides over the destinies of nations. The battle sir, is not to the strong alone. Is life so dear or peace so sweet as to be purchased at the price of chains and slavery? Forbid it almighty God. I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me liberty, or give me death."

These sentences have been erased from our textbooks. Was Patrick Henry a Christian? The following year, 1776, he wrote this "It cannot be emphasized too strongly or too often that this great Nation was founded not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religious, but on the Gospel of Jesus Christ. For that reason alone, people of other faiths have been afforded freedom of worship here."

Consider these words that Thomas Jefferson wrote on the front of his well-worn Bible: "I am a real Christian, that is to say, a disciple of the doctrines of Jesus. I have little doubt that our whole country will soon be rallied to the unity of our Creator and, I hope, to the pure doctrine of Jesus also."

Consider these words from George Washington, the Father of our Nation, in his farewell speech on September 19, 1796, "It is impossible to govern the world without God and the Bible. Of all the dispositions and habits that lead to political prosperity, our religion and morality are the indispensable supporters. Let us with caution indulge the supposition that morality can be maintained without religion. Reason and experience both forbid us to expect that our national morality can prevail in exclusion of religious principle."

Was George Washington a Christian? Consider these words from his personal prayer book: "Oh, eternal and everlasting God, direct my thoughts, words and work. Wash away my sins in the immaculate blood of the lamb and purge my heart by thy Holy Spirit. Daily, frame me more and more in the likeness of thy son, Jesus Christ, that living in thy fear, and dying in thy favor, I may in thy appointed time obtain the resurrection of the justified unto eternal life. Bless, O Lord, the whole race of mankind and let the world be filled with the knowledge of thee and thy son, Jesus Christ."

Consider these words by John Adams, our second president, who also served as chairman of the American Bible Society. In an address to military leaders he said, "We have no government armed with the power capable of contending with human passions, unbridled by morality and true religion. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

How about our first Supreme Court Justice, John Jay? He stated that when we select our national leaders, if we are to preserve our Nation, we must select Christians. "Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers, and it is the duty as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian Nation to select and prefer Christians for their rulers."

John Quincy Adams, son of John Adams, was the sixth U.S. President. He was also the chairman of the American Bible Society, which he considered his highest and most important role. On July 4, 1821, President Adams said, "The highest glory of the American Revolution was this: it connected in one indissoluble bond the principles of civil government with the principles of Christianity."

Calvin Coolidge, our 30th President of the United States reaffirmed this truth when he wrote, "The foundations of our society and our government rest so much on the teachings of the Bible that it would be difficult to support them if faith in these teachings would cease to be practically universal in our country."

In 1782, the United States Congress voted this resolution: "The Congress of the United States recommends and approves the Holy Bible for use in all schools."

William Holmes McGuffey, author of the McGuffey Reader, was used for over 100 years in our public schools with over 125 million copies sold until it was stopped in 1963. President Lincoln called him the "Schoolmaster of the Nation." Listen to these words of Mr. McGuffey: "The Christian religion is the religion of our country. From it are derived our notions on the character of God, on the great moral Governor of the universe. On its doctrines are founded the peculiarities of our free institutions. From no source has the author drawn more conspicuously than from the sacred Scriptures. From all these extracts from the Bible I make no apology."

Of the first 108 universities founded in America, 106 were distinctly Christian, including the first, Harvard University, chartered in 1636. In the original Harvard Student Handbook, rule number 1 was that students seeking entrance must know Latin and Greek so that they could study the scriptures: "Let every student be plainly instructed and earnestly pressed to consider well, the main end of his life and studies is, to know God and Jesus Christ, which is eternal life, John 17:3; and therefore to lay Jesus Christ as the only foundation of all sound knowledge and learning. And seeing the Lord only giveth wisdom let every one seriously set himself by prayer in secret to seek it of him (Proverbs 2:3)."

For over 100 years, more than 50% of all Harvard graduates were pastors! It is clear from history that the Bible and the Christian faith, were foundational to our educational and judicial system. However, in 1947, there was a radical change of direction for the Supreme Court. It required ignoring every precedent of Supreme Court ruling for the past 160 years. The Supreme Court ruled in a limited way to affirm a wall of separation between church and State in the public classroom.

In the coming years, this led to removing prayer from public schools in 1962. Here is the prayer that was banished: "Almighty God, we acknowledge our dependence on Thee. We beg Thy blessings upon us and our parents and our teachers and our country. Amen."

In 1963, the Supreme Court ruled that Bible reading was outlawed as unconstitutional in the public school system. The court offered this justification: "If portions of the New Testament were read without explanation, they could and have been psychologically harmful to children." Bible reading was now unconstitutional, though the Bible was quoted 94 percent of the time by those who wrote our Constitution and shaped our Nation and its system of education and justice and government.

In 1965, the Courts denied as unconstitutional the right of a student in the public school cafeteria to bow his head and pray audibly for his food. In 1980, Stone vs. Graham outlawed the Ten Commandments in our public schools. The Supreme Court said this: "If the posted copies of the Ten Commandments were to have any effect at all, it would be to induce schoolchildren to read them. And if they read them, mediated upon them, and perhaps venerated and obeyed them, this is not a permissible objective."

Is it not a permissible objective to allow our children to follow the moral principles of the Ten Commandments? James Madison, the primary author of the Constitution of the United States, said this: "We have staked the whole future of our new nation, not upon the power of government; far from it. We have staked the future of all our political constitutions upon the capacity of each of ourselves to govern ourselves according to the moral principles of the Ten Commandments."

Today, we are asking God to bless America. But, how can He bless a Nation that has departed so far from Him? Prior to September 11, He was not welcome in America. Most of what you read in this article has been erased from our textbooks. Revisionists have rewritten history to remove the truth about our country's Christian roots.

Anonymous~~ you had some interesting interpretations. If I appear angry it is simply because personally, I am weary of liberals 'demanding' that we constantly defend our beliefs and our faith. They have treated Christians as if we were retarded or insane. They ridicule, belittle, and distort the truth of our faith. They have the backing of the media so they get all the air time and print pages.


Why do I have to defend what I believe? I'm not asking them to defend their beliefs.


For example: having to defend the virginal birth of Jesus. It is stated in the Bible that He was born of a virgin. The Holy Bible is God's Holy Word. You cannot change it or cannibalize it. You either accept the whole counsel of God or go practice some other religion. There are plenty out there. But don't claim to be a Christian if you are not willing to live and die by this book. I guess I am willing.


As for preaching war, God told the Hebrew people when they were given the land of Canaan "...I will help you defeat the people now living in the land, you will drive them out ahead of you. Make no treaties with them and have nothing to do with their gods. Do not even let them live among you! If you do, they will infect you with their sin of idol worship, and that would be disastrous for you." Exodus 23:31b-32


In Numbers 33:50-56 They are told to "destroy" these people.


I realize, the 'modern' world has some trouble with the thought that God can, and is in fact willing to sanction war. That is the folly of the modern world. They no longer understand the depth of God's characteristics. Because whether you believe God will judge the world or not, doesn't really matter. He has stated that He will.

God has stated that those nations who turn their backs on Israel will fall under His judgments~~once again, whether the world believes Him or not.


Finally, to equate God or Jesus with the anti-christ is the kind of slam-dunk disrespect I'm talking about. And if the pledge contained the words "to the antichrist", I wouldn't stand and say it. Neither will I say to "Allah". If atheists don't want to say the pledge, I'm not going to demand they do so. I will respect their right not to. But to have them decide for everybody that no one has this right, is just as wrong.

Fw: Homeland Insecurity: Big Brother Is Watching You

Terrorism is a serious problem for America. But when our elected representatives vote for telephone book-sized laws they have not read, it also represents a serious problem.

That's just what happened when Congress passed the "Homeland Security Act," a 484-page law most House members did not even read. And that should make us all a little, shall we say, insecure in our homeland.

The troubling details are now trickling out. Title II creates a Directorate for Information Analysis and Infrastructure Protection within the Department of Homeland Security. The directorate is given open-ended power to "access, receive and analyze" information from federal, state and local government agencies and the private sector, to integrate this information, and to disseminate it to government and private recipients.

The act's occasional lip service to privacy is a sham. As with recent medical privacy regulations, here too federal officials genuflect toward privacy while they strip it away.

The surveillance system outlined by the Homeland Security Act builds on prior federal laws that mandated creation of many of the databases that will be inputs to the proposed integrated system. Few complained when, over the years, federal officials ordered our banks, our schools, our doctors, our employers, and others to collect detailed information about us. Nor did many complain about the vast array of government databases gradually assembled by the IRS, FBI, SSA, and the Departments of La bor, Education, HHS, and the rest.

Piece by piece, the central government demanded creation of key components, which, if integrated, could be used to create a virtual surveillance state. That integration is now an explicit objective of the Homeland Security Act.

Of course, there are also good provisions in the act, such as a program to arm airline pilots. But that is the point. By combining a variety of measures, good and bad, in a nearly indecipherable 484-page bill, and giving legislators less than 24 hours to examine its contents, key officials facilitated passage of provisions that otherwise might not have been accepted by Congress or the public. Labeling the bill as the "Homeland Security Act" guaranteed that few would dare to oppose it.

Unfortunately, this episode is not an isolated incident. In the past few weeks, we have discovered the Pentagon's planned consolidated database on nearly 300 million citizens. That's right, on all of us. The traditional presumption of innocence is being supplanted by a presumption of guilt. Defense officials now want to know everything there is to know about you--your bank account, the checks you write, your credit card transactions and other purchases, your educational records, your e-mail, your travels, and more--all without a search warrant.

This database proposal is a brainchild of the "Office of Information Awareness," led by Vice Adm. John M. Poindexter and housed within the Pentagon's Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. Its stated goal is to consolidate central government access to commercial as well as government databases. By centralizing analysis of such information, the government is doing what some have long feared, with predictable implications for privacy and liberty.

The office's emblem is an eye scanning the world, with the caption 'Scientia Est Potentia' (knowledge is power). That caption is chillingly accurate: Government officials' unrestrained acquisition of personal information about us will give them unprecedented power over us.

What is new about the surveillance contemplated by the Homeland Security Act and the Pentagon's "Total Information Awareness" system? For openers, surveillance is being centralized at the national level to an unprecedented degree. The government is further destroying barriers between commercial and government databases, seeking nearly unfettered access to private-sector information, and using data-mining to scrutinize innocent citizens. Ever more bureaucrats and business people are being granted access to government-compiled information about us without our knowledge or consent. While the pretense of court authorization sometimes remains, in actuality safeguards preventing surveillance of law-abiding citizens are being cast aside. The central government is openly seeking to spy on all Americans.

Congressman Bob Barr, R-Ga., has condemned the creation of these monster databases, but he tried to defend his colleagues in Congress by saying they were not fully aware of what they were voting for. Only in Washington, D.C., would such a "defense" be seriously advanced. This is not the America that I grew up in, but this is the America that will be handed to the next generation. We should all tremble for the future of our nation.

I always knew losing the Civil War consolidated the power of a strong federal government and basically destroyed "states rights".

Well, if this is the case, oops! In my older age, I have become more outspoken. Guess I just got tired of being bullied by those who think differently from me. I'm not trying to change them. That's not my goal. But nor do I want them to try to change me. For healthy discourse, both sides to an issue must be presented accurately and fairly. This just has NOT been the case in recent years. (See my previous post "Liberals vs. Freedom of Speech"~~now archived.)

Consequently, I have become a big emailer to many organizations that I share the same philosophy with as well as to "Big Brother". The way I see it, I'm one of their employers. When I see something I don't like now, hey, I go for it. But IF 'Big Brother' in actuality exists, then I, and others like me are in their databases somewhere and probably viewed as an enemy of the state.

When in fact, I LOVE MY COUNTRY. I'm tired of seeing the liberal few pushing their agenda on the majority of Americans~~who are conservative and God loving.

For those liberals who are gleefully glad that I and others like myself could be viewed as 'enemies of the state' and imprisoned without representation or recourse: BEWARE!!! Today, it is us.

(AgapePress) - New Orleans City Council President Oliver Thomas has seen what Katrina has done to his city. "Maybe," he has noted, "God's going to cleanse us."

This columnist has talked to many serious Christians about the tragedy of Katrina and the devastation it has wrought on Mississippi and Louisiana. The camps of thought seem two: God doesn't do things like this; and, God may well have done it, given the "sin city" nature of New Orleans and the casino-blighted coastline of Mississippi.

It is most unpalatable, of course, to suggest divine wrath. But biblically there is such a thing, and to assume that such Godly interference with evil will never happen again in our "enlightened" age is folly. New Orleans, for one, was one formidable "sin city." To begin the litany of God-mockery is to wonder where to finally stop: the occult and voodoo, Mardi Gras and the annual Southern Decadence festival (basically a homosexual Mardi Gras), ten times the national average of murders, a reputation for the worst government corruption, casinos with their bribes of public officials, the famous Bourbon Street which has evolved into a long line of porn shops and strip joints, police officers so uncommitted as to join in recent looting, and a city heaving with crime.

Perhaps it is just coincidence, but "Katrina" comes from the Greek which means "purity." New Orleans could use some of that.

It now has a tremendous opportunity.

Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour has done an extraordinary job, unlike his Louisiana counterpart, of providing leadership and hope to the people of Mississippi in these post-Katrina days even as the coast of his state resembles, in his words, "Hiroshima." He has said that Mississippi will return to be "bigger and better" than before.

Today, we who are further north in the state are concerned with the suffering of the coast dwellers and their rising from the rubble. Mississippians are a tough lot; they will, indeed, arise. But eventually, there needs to be a discussion on the "better" part of the "bigger and better" equation.

The casinos are today gutted of activity and need to rebuild to have a future. The first item of the gamblers' agenda this legislative session will be to coordinate a statewide effort to get those casinos land-based instead of resting on water. If "bigger and better" means to automatically grant them this request and thus engrave the practice of gambling further into the state's collective psyche, then I wonder if the state will miss out on a great opportunity. It should be noted that if the casinos can't be land-based, many of them may well leave altogether.

One would hope that, when thinking in terms of "better," morality would be the first thing to come to mind and not an afterthought to the tax revenue casinos purport to bring to the state's coffers.

God is speaking. Whether He caused the hurricane or not makes for interesting theological discussion, but this columnist for one will not speak for Him. Even so -- He is definitely speaking. And as we bow in humility and worship before the Almighty and ask for His revelation, do we hear His voice articulating that we should go back to decadence in New Orleans and casinos in Mississippi?

Here's hoping that we are not that deaf. Or, that stupid.

Response To Convergent:

Personally, I too think it is not worth rebuilding the city in the same area. That entire area should revert to shipping only. If the city is to be rebuilt, why not build a new one further inland. But people just love living by the water! It is soooooo gorgeous. So, when something this horrible and devastating happens, we really cannot profess ignorance.

Galveston also has built their seawalls in hopes that the 1900 storm can never happen again. I know they have had some cat.3's in recent years but since I no longer live on the coast myself and do not have a tv~~all my news comes via internet~~I have not kept up with the hurricane season myself. I do remember the anxiety of it though~especially when active. While the sea wall is an excellent effort, we just never know. But I can't blame Holland for trying as they are very similar to New Orleans in that they are a low lying land.

I don't believe in predestination per se. I do believe God when he told Jeremiah that He knew him in his mother's womb. God can say that about each of us. But, He has given us free will to choose. Sometimes, I know, I wonder what my life would have been like if I had chosen door a instead of b or turned left instead of right!

I do believe, however, that Jesus came as the fulfillment of the O.T.
I am going to look for the book you mentioned. I am always reading and looking for new material to read. Thank you for mentioning it!

(AgapePress) - I love the beauty of the low country and beaches of South Carolina where we vacation each May. I especially enjoy my early morning quiet times, watching the sun rising up out of the ocean. The colors in the sky speak of God's splendor, the sounds of the pounding surf of His power and vastness, and the variety of wildlife of the pleasure He takes in His creation. Truly, "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands. Day after day they pour forth speech; night after night they display knowledge." (Psalm 19:1-2)

John Piper expresses the idea this way:

Day pours forth the 'speech' of that message to all that will listen in the day, speaking with blindingly bright sun and blue skies and clouds and untold shapes and colors of all things visible. Night pours forth 'knowledge' of the same message to all who will listen at night, speaking with great dark voids and summer moons and countless stars and strange sounds and cool breezes and northern lights. Day and night are saying one thing: "God is glorious! God is glorious! God is glorious!" (The Pleasures of God, p. 87)

Of course, nowhere was God's glory more marvelously displayed than in Jesus. "For God ... made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ." (2 Corinthians 4:6) If we want the glory of God magnified before the nations of the world, we must introduce them to Jesus. That's where The Great Commission comes in. God has opened a window of opportunity for us to play a part in its fulfillment. We can pray for it. We can serve in it. And we can give toward it. Our giving glorifies God as it provides us with --

1) An opportunity to humbly acknowledge that all we have is a gift from Him. "David praised the Lord in the presence of the whole assembly, saying, '... Now, our God, we give You thanks, and praise Your glorious name. But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from You, and we have given You only what comes from Your hand." (1 Chronicles 29:13-14)

2) An opportunity to prove we love Him more than things. "O God, You are my God, earnestly I seek You; my soul thirsts for You, my body longs for You, in a dry and weary land where there is no water. I have seen You in the sanctuary and beheld Your power and Your glory. Because Your love is better than life, my lips will glorify You ... My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me." (Psalm 63:1-8)

3) An opportunity to demonstrate that we truly trust God's promises. "[The gifts you sent] are a fragrant offering, an acceptable sacrifice, pleasing to God. And my God will meet all your needs according to His glorious riches in Christ Jesus." (Philippians 4:18-19)

4) An opportunity to lead others into a round of praising God. "Because of the service by which you have proved yourselves, men will praise God for the obedience that accompanies your confession of the gospel of Christ, and for your generosity in sharing with them and with everyone else." (2 Corinthians 9:13)

5) An opportunity to contribute even more to building His kingdom rather than our own. "Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously .... And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work." (2 Corinthians 9:6,8)

When you consider the results that flow from our giving, it's easy to see why God loves a cheerful giver. As we take advantage of these opportunities, we bring joy to our heavenly Father's heart. However, may God grant that we do so while there is time, for the window will soon be closing -- either Christ will return for His bride, or we will end our life here and go to be with Him. Either way, time is fleeting. We must not presume that "there's always next year."

In our staff devotions, we regularly pray that the Lord will expand the hearts of our readers so they -- you -- will give back to Him exceedingly generously. It's the only appropriate response for those of us who have received God's forgiveness and "the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God's possession -- to the praise of His glory." (Ephesians 1:13-14)

I had a preacher many years ago, admit that if you want to get rich then sell drugs, alcohol or flesh. But be aware of those consequences!

Psalms 1:6b "...but the path of the wicked leads to destruction."

Matthew 6:19-21 "Don't store up treasures here on earth, where they can be eaten by moths and get rusty, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where they will never become moth-eaten or rusty and where they will be safe from thieves. Wherever your treasure is, there your heart and thoughts will also be."

Judging the World

The world asks: why does God allow natural disasters? Why does He not advert things like this if He has the power to do so?

These are legitimate questions. It is fair to ask them. But too many people do not want to hear the answer because they do not like the answer!


The fact is, it is all our faults. It is our sinful nature that causes judgment. For over 40 years, our sinful ways have been begging for judgment. God is giving us the opportunity to repent. We don't repent, we are judged. Let’s find out why.

As the ultimate mathematician, physicist, and Creator of all things God does have the power and authority to advert natural disasters if He chooses:

Romans 1: 20-21 “ From the time the world was created, people have
seen the earth and sky and all that God made. They can clearly see His invisible qualities--His eternal power and divine nature. So they have no excuse whatsoever for not knowing God. Yes, they knew God, but they wouldn’t worship Him as God or even give Him thanks...”

Matthew 8: 26-27 Jesus calms the storm And Jesus answered, 'Why are you afraid? You have so little faith.' Then He stood up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly all was calm. The disciples just sat there in awe. 'Who is this?' they asked themselves. 'Even the wind and waves obey him!'




Psalm 65: 6-7 You formed the mountains by your power and armed yourself with mighty strength. You quieted the raging oceans with their pounding waves and silenced the shouting of the nations.




God can avert these natural disasters. Why doesn't He then? Because if He saves your body but not your soul what has been accomplished? The body, from the moment of birth, is dying. The soul, however, is eternal and this is what God wants to save. Sometimes, to save, one must have his eyes opened to his true nature.




Truth can hurt. But it also will set you free~~John 8:32

Israel




Every nation that has turned their backs on Israel has suffered judgment from God. America was one of the architects for the withdrawal of Israeli’s from the Gaza strip. Many of us believe we are just beginning to see the judgments for this.




Genesis 12:3 “I will bless those who bless you and curse those who curse you. All the families of the earth will be blessed through you.”




Obadiah 1:15-16 “The day is near when I, the Lord, will judge the godless nations! As you have done to Israel, so it will be done to you. All your evil deeds will fall back on your own heads. Just as you swallowed up my people on my holy mountain, so you and the surrounding nations will swallow the punishment I pour out on you. Yes, you nations will drink and stagger and disappear from history, as though you had never even existed.”




Our sinful natures:




The first sin




Genesis 3: 14-19 The very first sin was one of disobedience.




It brought dire consequences with it: banishment from the Garden of Eden. Woman to have pains during childbirth and to answer to her husband. Man to toil all his days to scratch for a living. Finally, physical death.




What did Adam and Eve do that was so terrible? Adam and Eve ate from the one tree they were told not to eat from. Doesn’t sound too bad—but it is disobedience. God does not quantify sin like man does. To God, sin is sin—it is all bad. To us, we view murder as worse than disobedience. But in reality, God’s view of sin is the correct one.




Just as we must punish our own children for their errors, so they will learn; God must punish us for ours~~so we will learn also! We don’t punish our children because we hate them. Rather, we punish because we LOVE them. It is the exact same thing for God. He LOVES you! He wants you to repent so you will have eternity rather than damnation. But it is up to you. God gave mankind free will to choose. If you haven’t chosen, well, you really have. You have chosen NOT to choose. But the consequences are the same~~eternal death.




Sin spreads to others:




Genesis 4: 8


Cain murdered his brother Abel. It went
from Adam and Eve’s disobedience to murder!


Consequences of our sins will affect our progeny:




Exodus 34: 7 “I show this unfailing love to many thousands by forgiving every kind of sin and rebellion. Even so I do not leave sin unpunished, but I punish the children for the sins of their parents to the third and fourth generations.”




If God tells the truth, and He does as He is incapable of sinning, then we need to stop and think about our very actions. Because what we say, think, and do will affect our great, great, great grandchildren!




If you know this and believe it, would you commit the sin you are thinking of? Would you be disobedient? Would you murder? Commit adultery? Curse God? Do you want your future loved ones to pay for YOUR SINS?




But there is hope.




Compromise and Tolerance dulls our sensitivity to sin:




Exodus 34: 12

“Be very careful never to make treaties with the people in the land where you are going. If you do, you soon will be following their evil ways.”



Revelation 2:14

“…You tolerate some among you who are like Balaam, who showed Balak how to trip up the people of Israel. He taught them to worship idols by eating food offered to idols and by committing sexual sin.”



Or as any farmer knows, one bad apple spoils the barrel. To save the barrel you must get rid of the bad apple. Sin is the same way. To remain chaste and righteous you must stay away from those who try to talk you into sinning. They will call you intolerant, self-righteous, closed-minded. But to allow them to encourage you to compromise is to allow that bad apple to spoil the barrel.




Too many churches today have compromised by allowing sinful practices into their congregations. They have not given the reproof necessary when our brother has sinned:




1 Corinthians 5: 12 “It isn’t my responsibility to judge outsiders, but it certainly is your job to judge those inside the church who are sinning in these ways. God will judge those on the outside; but as the Scriptures say, ‘You must remove the evil person from among you.’”




1 Corinthians 5:1-2 “I can hardly believe the report about the sexual immorality going on among you, something so evil that even the pagans don’t do it….And you are so proud of yourselves! Why aren’t you mourning in sorrow and shame? And why haven’t you removed this man from your fellowship?”




If the ‘church’ fails to do this then there are consequences for the entire ‘church’:




Revelation 2:5 “…If you don’t, I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches.”




Church –is a place made up of the people who attend worship services.




For a church to lose her lampstand is for the church to cease as an effective witness~~the people have lost their ability to witness with any credibility due to the sin found within their family of fellowship. Churches are meant to be a ‘light’ to the communities around them. Jesus warns that their lights could go out and in fact He would extinguish any light that did not fulfill its purpose.




Episcopal and Anglican Churches are faced with this right now. Ultimately, they will have to choose to either tolerate the evil that is wanting in; or to remove those, who want to tolerate that evil, from their fellowship.




Importance of speaking out against sin:




1 Chronicles 9:1 “The people Judah were exiled to Babylon because they were unfaithful to the Lord.”




Not everyone in Judah was unfaithful! But the entire nation was carried away into exile. Everyone was affected by the sin of a few. It is not enough to say, “I wasn’t committing that sin.” We MUST speak out against the sins of our society.




New Orleans was a city that had sex shops everywhere that blatantly posted pornographic pictures in the front windows for everyone to see—including children. It was a city that had a large segment that practiced voodoo and satanism. The “Decadence Parade” was an annual event as was Mardi Gras. Gambling was legalized all up and down the Gulf coast.




Just as all of Judah was exiled, so all of New Orleans was destroyed. Not everyone practiced these vile evils; but everyone suffered because of them. Where were the churches and the Christians speaking out against these evils? I’m sure some did. But it wasn’t enough to affect a change. And if all they did was speak it from the pulpit without putting it into action to change their community; then it was a faith of words only. We must be the hands and feet of the Lord and go out and do His work in a hurting community.




All that is necessary for evil to succeed is that good men do nothing.

Sins begin with our attitudes and our thoughts:




Mark 7: 20-23 “…It is the thought-life that defiles you. For from within, out of person’s heart, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, greed, wickedness, deceit, eagerness for lustful pleasure, envy, slander, pride, and foolishness. All these vile things come from within; they are what defile you and make you unacceptable to God.”

Do you remember back when President Carter was being interviewed and he made the statement that if you lust in your heart you had committed adultery? Remember the grief the interviewer gave him? It was as if this interviewer had never heard of such a thing. Yet, President Carter was correct!




Matthew 5:27

Jesus said…”You have heard that the law of Moses says, ‘Do not commit adultery.’ But I say, anyone who even looks at a woman with lust in his eye has already committed adultery with her in his heart.’”



Why did Jesus take it a step further than the law of Moses? Because He knew, once you start to fantasize about other women, or men, you have allowed evil to enter and you have undermined your marriage. You must be faithful to your spouse not only in body but in mind as well!




Are these the only sins? No! I have just barely scratched the surface. If it seems that the Bible is very much preoccupied with sin, well, it is. We are all sinners. If it wasn’t such a big deal we would not have any need for a Savior! But it is a big deal. And we do need a savior!




Why is God angry at the sinner?




Romans 1:18-19 “But God shows his anger from heaven against all sinful, wicked people who push the truth away from themselves. For the truth about God is known to them instinctively. God has put this knowledge in their hearts.”




Paul points out that we ALL are sinners! We ALL deserve damnation and death.




But….even in His righteous anger, He desires to restore you to Him! God is able to do this as long as you (or I!) do not stubbornly distort or reject the truth of God’s word.




How we rationalize our sins.




Luke 7: 41 “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?”




Often times, we like to point out the sin in someone else’s life—see what they are doing? Aren’t they horrid and sinful?




We shouldn’t ignore wrongdoing, but we should not be so worried about others’ sins that we overlook our own! It is better to confront your own sins than to point out someone else’s! What ‘specks’ in others are easy for you to criticize? When we feel like doing this, we need to remember our ‘logs’—and when we do, we will feel less like criticizing!




Philippians 2:5-11

“Your attitude should be the same that Christ Jesus had. Though He was God, He did not demand and cling to His rights as God. He made Himself nothing; He took the humble position of a slave and appeared in human form. And in human form He obediently humbled Himself even further by dying a criminal’s death on a cross. Because of this, God raised Him up to the heights of heaven and gave Him a name that is above every other name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”



Hmmm, humble. Most of us, don’t do humble well. Most of us like to feel important and special. When we strive to feel important or special, we can become selfish! Selfishness can destroy a church, but genuine humility can build it!




Sometimes Christians’ attitudes do more damage than they do good in the secular world. Instead of humbly leading someone to Christ, we feel like we must jam it down their throats. We become argumentative and turn into bullies. But all this does is reinforce their poor opinions of Christians. In essence, we have become our own jihadists! That is, from God’s and Jesus’ perspective, totally incorrect, inappropriate and damaging. Instead of leading someone home to God, we have pushed them further away!




Recently, I read a post from a very angry young man who said that IF God exists, then when he comes into His presence, he was going to flip God off and curse Him out. What this young man fails to understand is he will not be given that opportunity. Whether he likes it or not, he WILL BOW down before Christ and proclaim Him as Lord. And then this young man will be judged whether he believes it or not.




There is a lot of anger in today’s society. Rather than getting angry, or vituperative back, we, as Christians need to stay calm and loving and gentle. We need to show as well as tell this hurting world that there IS a better way.




Therefore, hard as humble is, we should strive for it.




We must face our sins before we can be forgiven.




Luke 7:36-50


Jesus has come to the home of Simon a Pharisee to dine. A woman of “ill” repute comes in and begins to clean Jesus’ feet with a very expensive perfume and her tears. Simon decided that Jesus was no prophet because He didn’t know what kind of woman was cleaning his feet. Jesus tells Simon that He wants to say something to him –and proceeds to tell the story of a man who loaned two people money. One was loaned 500 pieces of silver and the other was loaned 50. Neither man could repay the debt. So the debt was forgiven. Jesus asked Simon then which debtor was more grateful? Simon responded that it would be the one who had the larger debt. Jesus replies that this is correct. The parallel is the woman who had a great many sins was truly grateful for her redemption and she showed her love and gratefulness to Christ by anointing His feet and kissing His feet because she HAD been forgiven much.




“I tell you, her sins—and they are many—have been forgiven, so she has shown me much love. But a person who is forgiven little shows only little love.”




Overflowing love is the natural response to forgiveness. Only when we realize the depth of our sins can we appreciate the complete forgiveness that God has offered us. Jesus rescues all of His followers, whether we were once extremely wicked or conventionally good, from eternal death!




Correct response when others point out our sins:

Money cannot buy us what we need for salvation:



Acts 8:18-24

“Simon saw that the Holy Spirit was given when the apostles, placed their hands upon people’s heads, he offered money to buy this power. ‘Let me have this power, too,’ he exclaimed, ‘so that when I lay my hands on people, they will receive the Holy Spirit!’ But Peter replied, ‘May your money perish with you for thinking God’s gift can be bought!’ You can have no part in this, for your heart is not right before God. Turn from your wickedness and pray to the Lord. Perhaps He will forgive your evil thoughts, for I can see that you are full of bitterness and held captive by sin.”



Simon’s response: “Pray to the Lord for me, that these terrible things won’t happen to me!”




Most of us, when we are rebuked by someone else, tend to become angry, hurt or defensive. But these are the wrong attitudes! Instead the correct response is just like Simon’s, we should pray and ask forgiveness.




Simon in his ignorance wanted to purchase that which is freely given!




We cannot save ourselves.




Good people don’t go to heaven. “Saved” people go to heaven.




What is the difference you might ask? A big one. There are many good people on this planet. They do wonderful things for others. They are altruistic. They are kind. They are loving. They are not selfish. They love their fellow man. And they are just as surely damned as any thief, rapist, murderer or satanic worshipper!



Why?


John 14:6 "I am the way, the truth and the life. No one can come to the Father except through me."

Acts 4: 12 "There is salvation in no one else! There is no other name in all of heaven for people to call on to save them."

Ephesians 2: 8-9 “God saved you by His special favor when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”



Isaiah 64:6 “All of us have become like one who is unclean, and all our righteous acts are like filthy rags; we all shrivel up like a leaf, and like the wind our sins sweep us away.”


Titus 3: 5 “He saved us, not because of the good things we did, but because of His mercy. He washed away our sins and gave us a new life through the Holy Spirit.”

If good people have not chosen Jesus, then they have chosen damnation~~simply by not making a choice at all!

NO AMOUNT OF MONEY CAN BUY SALVATION, FORGIVENESS OF SIN OR GOD’S POWER. THESE ARE ONLY GAINED THROUGH OUR REPENTANCE AND BELIEF IN JESUS CHRIST AS OUR SAVIOR.




One example comes to mind here for me. It is one that comes from the movies! I don’t have any personal experience of this. The movies always show the mafia dudes as tithing to the Catholic church. They erroneously believe that their generous tithes will guarantee them a place in heaven. Then they go out and order the next ‘hit’ on someone.




Their place is NOT guaranteed because you cannot buy your way in to heaven! (Isn’t that a relief? I would be too poor to buy my way in!) Once you have accepted God’s free gift of salvation, you can’t go out and commit the same old sins! You have become a new creature in Christ and you are to shed that old sinful nature just as a snake sheds his skin. What’s more, once you have become a Christian, you should NOT want to continue with those old sins! Those mafia types who tithe but continue to order the killing of other people or kill are not going to heaven.




Forgiveness may NOT stop the consequences of sin!




1 Peter 4: 17-18

“For the time has come for judgment, and it must begin first among God’s own children. And if ever we Christians must be judged, what terrible fate awaits those who have never believed God’s Good News? And ‘If the righteous are barely saved, what chance will the godless and sinners have?’”



This passage is not about final judgment. It is about refining discipline. (Hebrews 12:7) God allows believers to sin and experience the consequences of that sin. He allows this for several reasons: 1) shows us our potential for sinning 2) encourages us to turn from sin and to depend more on God 3) prepares us to face even stronger temptations 4) helps us to stay faithful and keep on trusting Him




If believers need earthly discipline from God, how much more will unbelievers receive it?




Look at the following list. Which ones are sins?


1. suppressing the truth
2. Approving sinful behavior in others
3. lack of gratitude to God
4. speaking slander
5. gossiping
6. arrogance
7. sexual impurity
8. hating God
9. homosexual behavior
10. pride
11. greed
12. boastfulness
13. envy
14. disobedience to parents or authority figures
15. engaging in disputes
16. being untrustworthy
17. deceitfulness
18. unloving
19. maliciousness
20. unmerciful
21. inventing evil
22. murder
23. lack of discernment
24. failure to glorify God
25. worship of something or someone other than God
26. living together—cohabiting





Would you believer every single one is sinful? They are.




This is what happened to New Orleans. Which sins were obvious in the Big Easy? Many practiced voodoo-#6, 8, 25. Mardi Gras is just a big drunk fest before lent begins-#2, 23, 24. The Decadence Parade is basically a homosexual mardi gras-#9. They had sex shops with pornographic pictures on the windows for anyone to see—children included-#7, 11, 18, 20, 21. Gambling is everywhere-#6, 10, 12.




However, not every one in New Orleans deserved discipline. But all received it. And just like everyone in the kingdom of Judah received exile, not all of them deserved it. But they were all disciplined for the actions of the few. The Christians of New Orleans are in shock right now. But they WILL come out of this stronger in their faith before it happened. And the non-believers? They will be more angry, more hateful, more sinful. Unless they turn to God.




Will New Orleans be the last? I don’t know. I hope and pray so. But God wants this nation to repent. I fear it is not the last judgment we will see.




Are your actions contributing to the disciplining of America? (Or your own nation?) Are you caught up in the bondage of sin? Do you want to be free? Free of the constant anger. Free from hate. Free from sexual perversions. Free from whatever your sins are?



There is hope: Jesus!
God’s Plan of Salvation




It isn’t hard. There are no tricks. You don’t have to pay for it because Jesus did that for you!


1) You must realize you have a need for a savior.
Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”


2) There is a price for your sin.

Romans 6: 23 “For the wages of sin is death…..”


3) God loves you and paid for your sin!

Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.”


4) Christ offers you the gift of LIFE.

Romans 6:23 “….but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”


5) You need to repent and receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior.

Romans 10: 9,13 “that if you confess with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For everyone who calls on the Name of the Lord will be saved.”


6) God calls you to Holiness of life.

1 Thessalonians 5:23-24 “May God Himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. The one who calls you is faithful and He will do it.”



Pray the Sinner’s Prayer

Dear Lord,

I acknowledge that I am a sinner and that there is nothing I can do to remedy my sin problem on my own. I believe that you died on the cross to pay the penalty for my sin. I am placing my complete confidence in you for eternal life. Thank you for forgiving my sin. Thank you for coming into my life. Thank you for giving me eternal life. Help me to turn from my sin and live for you!

That’s it. It is so simple. God is so gracious! He loves you. Once you have accepted Jesus you need to find a church family so you can continue to grow in your faith. Read God’s Holy Word the Bible. The book of Romans in the New Testament is a wonderful book to start with!




At some point, you will need to make this decision public. Stepping out in that aisle and walking its length to profess your faith in Jesus is the most scary thing you will ever do. You’ll be thinking that these people KNOW what a sinner you are! That they know you have been the most terrible person ever.




But you would be wrong!! They are rejoicing! You are the prodigal! You have returned to the fold. The very angels in heaven are singing choruses of hallelujahs! So will your earthly church family!




So, when the time comes to step out. Do so in faith. Do so knowing that the already saved children of God are truly rejoicing that you have come home where you always belonged!
