ALTERNATIVE ENERGY

...An expert on the science of energy and oil production is spreading the message that, when it comes to oil supply meeting demand, the world is running out of time. Engineer, entrepreneur, and former oil industry executive Tom Mast says the urgent need to develop energy alternatives is being ignored. Mast's book is called Over a Barrel: a Simple Guide to the Oil Shortage (Hayden Publishing, 2005). It is designed to be a quick-read primer and includes discussion of the near-future crisis called "peak oil." That day is coming, Mast says, when the whole world's oil production begins to decline and eventually drops below the point where the demand exceeds supply. "This happens to oil wells, it happens to oil fields, and it happens to larger geographic areas like the United States, or the entire world," he says. The energy expert expects that critical point to be reached within the next few years. The problem, he adds, is that no one, including the U.S. -- which leads the world in oil consumption -- has put enough resources into developing alternative energy sources like hydrogen, nuclear energy, or solar energy. "All have technical or social problems or both that are pretty knotty, pretty difficult to solve," Mast says, "and we're just not trying very hard to solve them." With transportation and industries 97 percent dependent on oil, he asserts that peak oil is a disaster waiting to happen, one that can be expected "to lead to shortages of oil that are going to drive the price of oil way up. In the beginning that will be inflationary, but later it will lead to recessions and likely to increased contention, perhaps even armed conflict, for the remaining oil in the world." Mast says it is imperative for U.S. consumers to start learning now how to cut down and conserve.

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Well, just WHO stopped the development of alternate energy sources?

The big oil industries.

They nearly destroyed the solar energy technology from the 1970's. They certainly crippled it.

Why?

Because it was costing THEM money.

Their lobbyists worked hard getting what they wanted and strangling the funding for the people who were trying to advance the technology of alternate fuel sources.

Want someone to blame?

Blame the modern day greedy robber barons~~our oil industry!
