The Lure of Porn

I don't watch much television. But I did enjoy watching "Friends" on occasion. I liked their closeness and the way they always supported each other. It was a wonderful example of friendship. But the one thing I never did like was the way they "viewed" pornography as a normal healthy past time.

This is just proof that those in tv land; the writers, directors, producers, and yes, the actors; all have a world view rather than a Godly view of life. And they are lazy in their research.

Because if in fact they had bothered to research the affects of pornography, they would have discovered that it has caused only harm in this world. Perhaps then they would not have portrayed it as fun or cool or consequence free!

It exploits women and now quite frequently children~~child molestation is on the rise~~ all because pornography has desensitized the public to things that were once considered taboo. It becomes addictive. It destroys marriages and I would assume even living- together types of arrangements. People surfing porn sites at work are fired. Lives are destroyed.

Had the show done any research, I'm sure there were countless victims of pornography that would have shared how it harmed their families, and their lives.

It is NOT art. That is just an easy excuse to use to justify doing "what you want to do," damn the consequences. (Said like a petulant two year old.)

What I would like to see and TV land ought to do on their own before federal regulations step in, is to keep these type of shows on cable where they belong. Then allow the public to choose what cable channels they want to come into their homes. Until this happens, I will continue to live without tv. Quite frankly, I really am not missing much.

In 2003, 47% of Christians said pornography was a serious problem at home. That is nearly half!

If you profess to be a Christian then you need to stop viewing pornography. You need to walk the walk not just talk the talk. Hypocrisy like this harms all Christians everywhere~~making it tougher for all of us to be effective witnesses.

No one says they are going to grow up to become an addict. But it happens all too often~~all because of peer pressure; temptation; curiosity; or lack of self-control.

Meanwhile, what can you do if you are hooked on pornography? You can break these bonds. There is help. These organizations help the addict break free:
Dynamic Living for Men (DLM); Faithful and True Ministries; Harvest USA; Christians for Sexual Integrity; and Pure Life Ministries.

1 Corinthians 10:13
"But remember that the temptations that come into your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will keep the temptation from becoming so strong that you can't stand up against it. When you are tempted, He will show you a way out so that you will not give in to it."

The best advice to those out there who have not surfed the web for pornography: Don't Start! Once you open that door even an inch, it will slam wide open and devour you.

1 Peter 5:8 "Be careful! Watch out for attacks from the devil, your great enemy. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for some victim to devour."
