In Defense of Homophobia

by Jonathan I. Katz

Professor at Washington University in Missouri Read it here: In Defense of Homophobia
{c~b~n's comments enclosed in parentheses}

Homophobia is the moral judgement that homosexual behavior (most of the arguments in this essay refer specifically to male homosexual behavior) is wrong. Homophobia is not like ethnic, racial or religious prejudice, which deny the intrinsic moral rights and value of other people. Rather, it is a moral judgement upon acts engaged in by choice.

If you are religious, you probably agree with the homophobic position, because most major religions make this moral judgement. {Or they should be....} The Jewish and Christian Bible describes homosexual activity, in most English translations, as an "abomination''. This condemnation is found in the Book of Leviticus {their WEAK arguments that the Bible never mentions homosexuality or that Jesus WAS a homosexual is WRONG~~they are TRYING to JUSTIFY their life style}, along with condemnations of incest and bestiality. Unlike homosexuality, there has been no organized effort to win approval for those sexual sins, which are condemned by almost everyone. The same word is used to condemn moving boundary markers, a grievous sin in an agricultural society.

If you are a rationalist, you ask for logical explanation, beyond the word of the Bible, and beyond the revulsion which most people feel. Why have most cultures adopted this attitude? The rationalist does not accept any book as the word of God, but regards it as the embodiment of traditional wisdom. He cannot reject it out of hand; he must ask why traditional wisdom came to this conclusion.

Recent medical history provides a convincing argument. HIV, the virus which causes AIDS, has been present, and occasionally found in the human population, for about half a century (a few sporadic AIDS cases have been identified as far back as the 1950's, or even earlier). Yet they were quite rare; the modern AIDS epidemic began suddenly about 1980. Its first victims were promiscuous homosexual males; it was initially called "Gay-Related Immune Deficiency''. {In a recent poll given, only 10% of the respondants considered giving money for AIDS research~~education, housing & homelessness, local community IT programs, and the ENVIRONMENT came in higher! Join and give your 2 cents worth: Lightspeed Panel}

In America attitudes towards homosexuality changed in the 1970's. {As a teenager then, it was very apparent and I always thought what a STUPID reason to be recognized for politically~~I was just too young to recognize their "agenda". I thought then though that perhaps we should start our own "club" for heterosexuals and fight for a solid political base as well.....}

It went from a private {which it should have stayed being}, furtively practiced, vice to an open and accepted subculture. In many circles, "sodomite'' ceased to be an insult. This acceptance led to the toleration, and wide practice, of gross homosexual promiscuity. HIV, falling onto that fertile soil, made the AIDS epidemic. Even before AIDS was recognized, practicing homosexuals were notorious for a high rate of venereal diseases.

The religious believer may see the hand of God, but both he and the rationalist must see a fact of Nature. The human body was not designed to share hypodermic needles, it was not designed to be promiscuous, and it was not designed to engage in homosexual acts. Engaging in such behavior is like riding a motorcycle on an icy road without a helmet. It may be possible to get away with it for a while, and a few misguided souls may get a thrill out of doing so, but sooner or later (probably sooner) the consequences will be catastrophic. Lethal diseases spread rapidly among people who do such things.

Unfortunately, the victims are not only those whose reckless behavior brought death on themselves. There are many completely innocent victims, too: hemophiliacs (a substantial fraction died as a result of contaminated clotting factor), recipients of contaminated transfusions, and their spouses and children, for AIDS can be transmitted heterosexually (in America, only infrequently) and congenitally. The icy road was lined with unsuspecting innocents, who never chose to ride a motorcycle. Guilt for their deaths is on the hands of the homosexuals and intravenous drug abusers who poisoned the blood supply.

These people died so the sodomites could feel good about themselves. {Homosexuals are some of the most self-absorbed, self-centered people around. It is only about what they want right then. Damn the consequences.}

At present, HIV testing has reduced the risk of infection by transfusion almost (but not exactly) to zero. However, should a new lethal blood-borne virus arise, it will not be detected, and a test developed, until thousands of people have been infected. Experience with HIV shows that the environments of homosexual promiscuity and intravenous drug abuse can readily turn a single infection into an epidemic.

The homophobe does not engage in violence against homosexuals. Repelled, he stays away from them. Homophobes are divided on the wisdom of laws against homosexual acts. Some believe laws are a good way to reduce their frequency and damaging consequences. Others, probably the majority, believe that outlawing these acts is futile, just as outlawing drug abuse may be futile, and that laws may lead to destructive witch-hunts. These homophobes believe the best approach is moral condemnation, which is the approach our society now applies to many other destructive practices, such as adultery, alcohol and tobacco abuse, and suicide. Moral condemnation will not extirpate them, but neither can the law; a climate of disapproval may reduce their frequency and their harm.

What of those cursed with unnatural sexual desires? Must they forever suppress these desires? Yes, but this is hardly a unique fate. Almost everyone has desires which must be suppressed. Most men and women think adulterous thoughts fairly often, and find themselves attracted to members of the opposite sex to whom they are not married. Morality requires them to suppress these desires, and most do not commit adultery, though they feel lust in their hearts. Almost everyone, at one time or another, covets another's property. They do not steal. Many people feel great anger or intense hatred at some time in their lives. They do not kill.

I am a homophobe, and proud.

Post-Script October 17, 2003: The homosexual movement is now campaigning against blood drives, because blood banks do not accept blood from men who have engaged in homosexual acts.{Well, DUH....} This is "discrimination'', the campaigners say (see, for example, Washington University Student Life October 17, 2003).

Of course it is discrimination; the blood banks are discriminating against blood at risk of contamination with HIV, which would give the recipients the fatal disease AIDS. Intravenous drug abusers are also rejected as donors, for the same reason. People who have lived in the United Kingdom are now rejected because they are at (much lesser) risk for CJD.

Some discrimination is wrong. Racial discrimination, for example, is almost invariably unethical (and generally illegal) because race is unrelated to the ability to do a job, study, fulfill a contract, or almost any other activity of daily life.

Some discrimination, however, is both justified and necessary. For example, it is quite appropriate for a basketball team to discriminate among applicants on the basis of height, agility and stamina, for a prospective patient to discriminate among doctors on the basis of their academic qualifications and past record of practice, and for a blood bank to discriminate among prospective donors on the basis of the statistical risk that their blood is contaminated with infectious diseases.

In order to satisfy their demand for full acceptance by society, the homosexual movement demands to kill some transfusion recipients by infecting them with AIDS, or to kill patients who need transfusions by making it impossible for blood banks to collect blood. Or, perhaps, this was just a joke. But I think not. {No, it isn't a joke. Homosexuals do NOT care whom they hurt as long as they are recognized and catered to~~too self-absorbed to worry about consequences to some unknown person....}

Post-Script October 9, 2005: In recent weeks this essay has been the subject of controversy at, and even beyond, Washington University (see, for example, recent issues of Student Life). A number of critics have asked if monogamous homosexuals are also culpable. Quite apart from the question of the definition of monogamous (sexual contact with only one person in a lifetime? serial monogamy? some cheating? etc.), I suggest the following analogy: A man joins the Ku Klux Klan. He is not violent, and would never hurt a fly; he just wants a safe place to express his racist feelings. Is he culpable for the Klan's past acts of violence? I believe that even though he is not criminally responsible for acts that occurred before he joined, he is morally culpable for joining the Klan. The Klan has blood on its hands, and anyone who joins must share the guilt. So, too, with the homosexual movement.

{Absolute brilliance! Prof. Katz is extremely articulate and his reasoning is sound. Too bad the young AND the old at his university do NOT have the moral courage to stand with him. This blogger, however, does.}

The reason why Christians are persecuted

I can't say it any better than Mr. Jacobson did~~so rather than trying, here is his own brilliant reasoning along with the Biblical references supporting it. I have inserted two comments {surrounded by parentheses} below.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Why are Christians Persecuted?
by Jim Jacobson

FRONT ROYAL, VIRGINIA, July 27 (CFI~~ Christian Freedom.org )

Why are Bible-believing Christians so despised by the world? This is a question people frequently ask.

Do practicing Christians rob their neighbors, lie, cheat, fail to pay their taxes, or engage in other illegal activities?

Of course not.

Perhaps the best answer is found in a conversation between Jesus and Nicodemus. Nicodemus was a Pharisee, a member of the Jewish ruling council. He came to Jesus at night seeking answers to profound questions.

As Jesus said to Nicodemus,This is the verdict: Light has come into the world, but men loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.”

Jesus then proceeds to answer the question about why His followers are so despised by the world: “Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that his deeds will be exposed.”

Jesus finishes His conversation with Nicodemus with this important point, “But whoever lives by the truth comes into the light, so that it may be seen plainly that what he has done has been done through God.”

The fact of the matter is this, if you are a follower of Jesus Christ you will be hated by those who do evil. Like rats in a sewer, they despise the light. Evildoers reject God’s son.

Jesus gives us more insight on this issue in a sermon he gave to a crowd on a mountainside. He said, “Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Continuing, He said, “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.”

Jesus goes on to talk about the “light” again by telling His followers, “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let you light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.”

Here is the amazing paradox for followers of Jesus Christ. If we have trusted in Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, we must let our light shine before men. In fact it cannot be hidden.

But by doing so, we will be hated and despised by the world. Paradoxically, the more the world hates us, the more we should rejoice and be glad.

This is what drives godless dictators in countries like Burma, Vietnam, North Korea, and Laos crazy so that they tear down churches and put Christians in prison, And this is what causes anti-Christian rulers in Saudi Arabia, Sudan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Pakistan, and elsewhere to persecute, arrest and even martyr Christians.
{Add Iraq, Iran, Turkey, India, gee, name a middle eastern country~~with the exception of Israel}

Here at home, this is also what prevents many from receiving a promotion or losing their job. It is the daily grind of going-it-alone at the office or school and being the subject of cruel gossip at the water cooler or school cafeteria. {We have it so much easier~~at least, America has not started to put us to death......yet}

As Jesus said, “If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. Remember the words I have spoke to you: ‘No servant is greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also.”

The promise we have is that we are not alone—they persecuted the prophets before us—and even more, our reward will be great in heaven.

What an incredible and wonderful opportunity for all Christians!

Keep the faith.

New FCC complaint form for offensive TV

...People who are offended by radio or television broadcasts now have an easier way to voice their complaints to the Federal Communications Commission. FCC advisor Penny Nance gave the good news to the public this week. "The FCC is pleased to announce changes to the FCC website that will entail a new complaint form and process for filing complaints about broadcast material," she stated. According to Nancy, the new site -- called the "Obscenity/Indecency/Profanity Home Page" -- allows individuals to just "point, click, and complain." The FCC expects complaints to rise as people become aware of the ease of operation.

by Bill Fancher of Agape Press

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

Upon checking out the site myself, it states it is not up and running yet.....so stay tuned.

Ummmm, I wonder how many times that "Desperate Housewives" show will be hit~~truly making ABC desperate?

Below is what they have proposed: Not too complicated! The consumer will have the choice of emailing it or submitting it to a web site that hasn't been determined yet.

******************************
If emailing our representatives helps, well this can't hurt!

Perhaps with enough complaints, perhaps the big 3~~ ABC, CBS, NBC~~will start to pay attention and create some family friendly shows. (Fox too....)

The thing is, we shouldn't HAVE to purchase cable to have decent shows in our homes. (Wow, radical thought!) Commercials pay for the "free" television; but in recent years TV just has not been worth viewing. Maybe those companies ought to quit advertising and help the American consumer boycott these bad shows. Nah, that won't happen~~those companies would lose money and whoa, money is MORE important than the consumer. Forgive my cynacism......

No one in recent years has really wanted to provide quality programming (the exception was Touched By An Angel and now Joan of Arcadia both on CBS!)~~thus forcing the consumer; who can afford that extra bill or should have to?; to purchase cable packages to get 1 or 2 channels that ARE family friendly mixed in with a bunch of channels you don't want, don't need, will never watch or object to.

Why can't we have more 'I Love Lucy', 'Mayberry RFD' or 'Leave It to Beaver'? How about 'Highway to Heaven', 'The Waltons', or 'Star Trek'?

Shows that were entertaining, funny, touching AND clean! (Even James T. Kirk was ALWAYS a gentleman......)

This is why I have had television for only 20 months in the last seven YEARS~~and it has been nearly 2 years ago since my last try.....

Until I CAN get the channels I want, I'm not spending my hard earned money on .....trash~~~~sorry "Desperate Housewives".

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~UPDATE~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
11/22 from Agape Press
by Jody Brown
Perhaps motivating the creation of the online complaint process was the glut of indecency and obscenity complaints the FCC had been receiving before that.
From July 1, 2005, and September 30, 2005 indecency/obscenity complaints jumped from 6,161 to 26,185. That would be consistent with the rapid increase of broadcast indecency complaints reported by the FCC over the past several years.
CNSNews.com Information Services reports the following statistics:
  • in 2000, the FCC reported a mere 111 indecency complaints
  • that number tripled to 345 in 2001
  • then skyrocketed to 13,922 in 2002
  • to 202,032 in 2003
  • and finally, to more than one million in 2004.
  • 540,000 of the complaints in 2004 dealt with the "wardrobe malfunction" with Janet Jackson and Justin Timberlake.
{Just when you thought TV COULDN'T GET ANY WORSE.....}
Gush Gatif Refugees
Came to me via e-mail:
A Gaping Wound
By Rachel Saperstein
Jerusalem Gold Hotel
September 22, 2005
The wound grows larger, wider, deeper. The Israeli government has now demanded that each expelled family pay 150 shekels per day for living in a hotel room. Considering that we have no income, nor any home to return to, it is quite a chunk of money to be deducted from our compensation package. Indeed, absolutely no money has been paid to the vast majority of expellees. We are dependent on the kindness of donors even for pocket money.
“Ah,” says the government, “but 900 families have received keys to caravillas (caravans made to look like villas). You just don’t want to leave the hotel. That’s why we’re fining you.”
“But we do want to leave,” we reply. “We want our own homes. Our own kitchen table. Where are the caravillas?”
“They aren’t built yet. We’re working on them.”
“So even the few of us who have received keys have no doors in which to put them...”
“True, but we’re telling the media you just want to enjoy the hotels.”
“Where is the money you promised us so we can maintain our dignity until the final compensation is worked out?”
“We gave you half a million dollars when you were forcibly removed from Gush Katif.”
“But we never received any money...”
“Doesn’t matter. We are telling the media you are choking on all the money we’ve given you. We have the best public relations firms working for us, and collaborators throughout the press. And today people believe what we say. Our message is repeated over and over in all the media. Whom do you think the world believes, the government of Israel or... the settlers?”
“Why are you doing this to us? No homes, no money, no jobs, and dependent on the charity of others. And even forced to continue paying mortgages on the homes you destroyed.”
“Because if we succeed in convincing the world that we are the good guys and you are the liars we’ve set the stage for the next expulsion. The settlers of Judea and Samaria understand this very well. They won’t give us any trouble when they get their eviction notices. They’re watching how we squeeze you and make you suffer. They won’t want to be in your shoes. They’ll sell out quickly enough. You are the example.”
“We may be the example of people you have expelled but we have retained our self-respect despite your best efforts.”
“But we are working overtime at breaking you, depriving you of your dignity. We signed an agreement to give the people of Kfar Darom an apartment building in Ashkelon so they could stay together. But we reneged.”
“Why?”
“We can do with you as we wish. We can make you disappear. We have the power to do so. You witnessed our power first hand. Anyway, elections are on the horizon and Gush Katif must be forgotten – and soon. That’s why we torment and humiliate you. So you’ll give up and just go away.”
We will not go away. We are a community and will remain a community. We are a symbol to the world. Our strength lies in our belief in our country, our people, our Torah. Through us Eretz Yisrael will remain strong despite your efforts to weaken it. The love of the people that we inspire will overcome your power. The gaping wound that you have created in Israel’s society will heal only through our strength and belief. We will be the healers and we will not be forgotten and you will not be forgiven.”
Pakistan Earthquake
I know the devastation within our own country is very great from the various weather disasters.
But the GREAT thing about Americans is that the have very BIG HEARTS. They have in the past given even to the point of hurting because of this national trait.
Really, when our nation HAS been so blessed, how can we not help when it is needed~~no matter where it is needed?
******************************************************************
From Voice of the Martyrs:
Matthew 5:44, "But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you."
The earthquake occurred in an area where many Islamic training camps exist and where Christians face extreme hostility. But our brothers and sisters in Pakistan are taking this opportunity to be a witness by demonstrating the love of Christ!
Slogans like the following slogan can be read in the area of Pakistan's recent earthquake.
"We have training programs. Come and join us and train in this Jihad. Kill Christians and Jews and you will go to paradise."
The death toll from the earthquake in Pakistan has now reached 50,000, with many bodies still lying under the rubble. Millions are without homes, food, water and hope. The Voice of the Martyrs just received a request from our field director in Pakistan for funds to provide immediate relief. Food, medicine and blankets are badly needed.
Now you can join with local churches in Pakistan in an outpouring of love to those opposed to the Gospel.
Join with our courageous brothers and sisters who are willing to stand as bold witnesses in the Islamic nation of Pakistan.
You can make a contribution toward the Emergency Earthquake Relief Fund, which will be used for blankets, food, medicine and other necessities and will be distributed directly through the local church in Pakistan to their Muslim neighbors in the area affected by the earthquake.
...Aid workers with the Southern Baptist Convention are assisting survivors of the recent killer earthquake in Pakistan. It is estimated that more than 40,000 people died when the earthquake hit October 8 on the Pakistan-India border.
SBC missionaries have been in the area for years and are able to use their contacts and knowledge of the local customs and languages to bring aid to those in need. One SBC worker, who cannot be identified because of security concerns, says conditions are desperate. "So many of the people are homeless," he says.
"You're seeing videos on television -- that's exactly what's happened here. All those homes are down; people are just hunkered under trees and whatever kind of shelter they can find."
The Southern Baptist worker says as many tents as possible are being purchased and provided to those left homeless so they at least have some kind of shelter for their protection. No Southern Baptists serving in Asia were hurt in the earthquake and its immediate aftermath. by Allie Martin of Agape Press
Passing out religious tracts in the PUBLIC school~~IS ALLOWED
Read the full article here: Agape Press
"Barb Weller, an attorney with the Florida-based Christian Law Association..."even if one assumes that the so-called separation of church and state is constitutionally legitimate, and the Christian lawyer says she is not prepared to 'buy into that theory,' she insists that any establishment clause-based restriction would only apply to teachers and other school employees. It does not apply to students, she says."
The misunderstanding of the law that resulted in the school initially prohibiting the student's free exercise of her First Amendment rights is a common one, and not only among secularist public officials, Weller notes. "Many times it's Christian principals who refuse to let students pass out religious material," she says.
These school officials (Christian principals) "think they can keep it all out," Weller says, "but the fact of the matter is, they can't." And, in fact, she feels Christian school officials, of all people, should be the ones to encourage students to hand out gospel tracts or otherwise share their faith in Christ.
Prayer Police Foil Another
By Brad Locke
October 17, 2005
Blogged in its entirety~~it's that good! Also read it here: Agape Press
{conservative~by~nature's comments enclosed}
The prayer police are on patrol again. This time they've nabbed a rogue high school football coach who's dared to lead his team in prayer before meals and games.
(Parents, please don't let your kids read this; I wouldn't want the graphic description of this heinous act to scar them for life.)
Marcus Borden, a coach at East Brunswick High in New Jersey, resigned last week after being told by courageous administrators that he could no longer thank God in front of groups of impressionable teenagers. The parents of some of these kids complained about Borden's offensive prayers, saying it made their children "uncomfortable," as the Associated Press story put it. School officials said these students' discomfort should be treated with respect. But the damage may already be done; psychological counselors are being rushed in for all students who suffered emotionally from standing quietly while Borden uttered expletives like "Thank you, God" and "In Jesus' name."
OK, enough with my sarcasm; I'm sure it's not productive, but such absurd circumstances warrant it. {conservative~by~nature couldn't AGREE MORE!!!! Our world has become utterly absurd~~no common sense.}
The school used the old "separation of church and state" line, further perpetrating the myth that there is such a clause in the Constitution. Never mind that for most of this country's history, prayer was everywhere in public life. I guess it just took us a couple of centuries to figure out that our Founding Fathers didn't really think it was OK to allow religion's voice in the public square, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
Borden, of course, believes otherwise. He said he resigned on principle -- I'll allow the appropriate people a moment to go look that word up. Wonder what he'll do with his sudden spare time? Something equally nefarious, I'm sure, like devoting more energy to the Snapple Bowl, an all-star football game he founded that has raised over $150,000 for physically and mentally impaired children. The fiend.
Borden pointed out that he's not the only coach to lead prayers. He's right. Happens in Mississippi all the time {Texas, too~~EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT GAME!} (hope the Anti-Christian Liberties Union {outstanding, descriptive name for them!!! } doesn't read this).
Goodness knows how many teenagers are in psych wards as a result. But I guess we're just backwards down here. We're not sensitive to how others might feel about God. Hearing someone else pray makes them "uncomfortable." I wonder why. Maybe it's because that puts them at risk of confronting their own sinfulness; or maybe it makes them feel spiritually inferior; or maybe it just threatens their tidy, self-centered worldview.
This is simply another sign of America's growing hostility toward Christianity, or more precisely, toward Christ. His words made the Pharisees wriggle 2,000 years ago, and they still make folks wriggle today.
I've probably said this before, but it's so true: Humans have trouble believing in God because doing so means (a) someone else is in control; (b) they must be held accountable for their every action; and (c) they must learn to think of someone besides themselves.
I assume most parents and administrators want coaches who will help steer kids in the right direction. That implies that these same people want coaches who possess some sort of moral compass and believe that right and wrong aren't just feelings, but facts. Thus, these coaches must have a moral source (for morality without a source beyond the self is dangerous). So why aren't coaches whose source is God allowed to acknowledge Him?
And why are people so intent on shielding this young generation from the truth of God? {They are NOT going to thank any of you for doing this~~in fact, I believe it will have a whiplash effect and they will RESENT those grown-ups who did so.}
This culture has no problem exposing kids to gore, casual sex and all sorts of self-destructive philosophies. But try to tell them about God, and you just might ruin them. Might actually make them use their brains to figure out why they're here. Bill Maher {Well, look who it is...as if he has anything worth listening to~~don't waste my time and they ought to quit wasting the film celluloid....} has called Christians mentally unstable, but close-minded is the person who denies the intrinsic rationality of God's existence.
Over 50 players went to Borden's house begging him to return. If the school officials really were concerned about their students, they would ask those kids how "uncomfortable" this tragic episode has made them feel.
Natural Disasters: When Nations Neglect God's Business for Their Own
By Rev. Mark H. Creech
October 18, 2005
snowfall in Los Angeles -- a severe drought this summer in the Midwest--heat wave in Arizona -- hurricanes in Florida, Carolina, and of course, the monster of all storms, Hurricane Katrina.
All, says Ross Gelbspan of the Boston Globe, are the results of human-induced global warming. According to Gelbspan, it's not just America, but places around the world like Scandinavia, Spain, Portugal, and India that are feeling the heat of catastrophic environmental changes.
{After researching this "issue", I don't believe this bunk.}
"...experts tend to disagree about what's really taking place."
The succession and intensity of these events have rightly caused people to sense something isn't right in the earth, and scientific data alone can't explain it.
Interestingly, the Old Testament book of Haggai describes a time not unlike ours, when the people of Israel were wondering why so many natural calamities had befallen them.
Like us, they had thought of every reason but God. Of course, they were too sophisticated, even too pious, to blame Him.
Yet God said to them: "You counted on much; and see it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why? says the Lord of hosts. Because of my house that is in ruins, while you each busy yourself with his own house. Therefore for your sake the heavens have withheld the dew and the earth withheld its produce. I called for a drought upon the land, upon the mountains, upon the grain, upon the new wine, upon the oil, upon what the ground produces and upon men, upon cattle and upon all the labor of their hands" (Haggai 1:9-11, The New Berkeley Version).
In other words, God was saying: "I'm the reason you've experienced the storms -- the drought -- the scorching heat -- the crop failures -- the strong winds -- this heightened intensity of natural disasters. I did it. And I did it because I wanted to get your attention about the way you've forgotten me and my business and focused exclusively on your own."
Radio Bible teacher, the late Dr. J. Vernon McGee
  • In our day the tendency is first to blame the police -- they should have been on the job. Then we blame the mayor, we blame the legislature, and we blame Washington. Very possibly all of them are guilty. But, my friend, has it occurred to you that you yourself are to blame? Although we blame men and machines for the conditions of the world, God has brought it all to pass. Do you want to blame Him? Go ahead. He told Israel that He was responsible. But He also told them why. They had neglected Him. You see, the solution to our problems is very simple; yet it is complicated. We think that if we put in a new method or a new machine or a new man, our problems will be solved. My friend, why don't we recognize what our problem really is, who caused it, and how it can be solved."
{Because that would mean accepting responsibility for ourselves~~our thoughts, our actions, our words~~No, sadly Americans are into "Blaming the OTHER person". It was his fault. He made me do it. We have become such a whining people.}
One needn't think the natural disasters in New Orleans, Biloxi, or any other place were because the people in those cities acted more wickedly than others. Jesus warned against that kind of assessment in Luke 13:1-5, declaring: "Unless you repent you will all similarly perish." {Better pay attention here Iraq, Iran, et.al.}
But this unusual barrage of climatic catastrophes should be seen as a wake-up call for people everywhere -- the handwriting on the wall that God is ready to judge the nations. {This means ALL nations. So, Iraq and Iran , et. al. can QUIT GLOATING. They too will be JUDGED.}
God gets no pleasure in afflicting men. His actions are not retaliatory. But the Sovereign of the Universe cannot simply allow His law to be spurned. His will and way must be paramount to everything else. His business must be attended to first.
In 1787, George Mason, one of the largest plantation owners in Virginia, stated his views on national accountability before the Constitutional Convention:
  • "As nations cannot be rewarded or punished in the next world, they must be in this. By an inevitable chain of causes and effects, Providence punishes national sins, by national calamities."
Global warming? The sun heating up? A natural cycle?
Have you ever considered the fact that recent natural disasters might have more to do with you -- your neglect -- my neglect -- America's neglect -- the nations' neglect of God's business for their own?
The Facts of Life in Hollywood
"I've (Lisa Whelchel) been out of the industry for over 15 years, so from my friends that are still in, they say it's much, much harder -- much tougher, much uglier," Whelchel admitted.
Until very recently, Whelchel felt as if God had abandoned Hollywood altogether.
"[But] I do feel ... that in just the last few years, from what I'm hearing and from friends, that the Lord is planting people who are making a difference in Hollywood," she said.
This is encouraging since there were very few Christians filling the roles of writers, producers, directors and actors during Whelchel's time in the industry.
"I think a lot of that had to do with the fact that it [Hollywood] is such a hostile environment to the ways of the Lord," Whelchel said. "[Only] in the last two, three years have I seen any kind of glimmer of light being able to pierce the darkness."
Therefore, Whelchel urges industry insiders to step back and take a look at the end goal of each project being produced.
"I would encourage them{Hollywood} to think about the influence -- for positive or negative -- that they are going to make and how it is going to shape the culture because it will shape the culture," she explained.
The Facts of Life as a Wise Consumer
But Whelchel is quick to admit that the emerging change in Hollywood is not totally in the hands of its insiders. "It's up to the people -- the consumers," she said.
She believes it is the responsibility of the Christian consumer to stop going to R-rated movies and to stop watching TV shows that are immoral. {If Christians are watching these shows, well, what kind of message is that sending to those who know you as a Christian? Not a very positive one! It could be said, that this makes us hypocrites! And yes, my family LOVES movies. We are guilty of this ourselves. If you want to watch a movie, it has become nearly impossible to find one that does not have any of this in it. I hate the bad language, graphic sex and violence. I will have to check out the links below.} Instead, the consumer should support family-friendly movies and programs so that Hollywood will recognize the demand for more wholesome entertainment.
"We can't put all the blame on Hollywood," Whelchel said. "They have much less power than the consumer."
Therefore, Whelchel and her husband Steve Cauble, associate pastor and director of information technologies at The Church on the Way in Los Angeles, seek to be responsible consumers by monitoring their family's media intake. Due to the family's busy schedule, none of them find much time for television. But, a family favorite in the Cauble household is old reruns of The Facts of Life that are loved by Whelchel's most loyal fans, her children -- Clancy, 13, Haven, 14, and Tucker, 15.
"As far as movies, whenever our kids want to go see a movie, I immediately go to either PluggedInOnline.com or ScreenIt.com, or both, and find out if it's something that is going to feed their spirit or their flesh," Whelchel explained. "They know I'm not going to sign off on most movies."
So the family usually waits until the movies come out on Clean Flicks, a business similar to Clean Films, a sponsor of the American Family Association. Both companies take popular Hollywood movies and professionally edit out the offensive content making the movies free of profanity, nudity, graphic violence and sexual situations.
"So we can still enjoy the story as a family," Whelchel said.
In the last seven years, conservative~by~nature has had tv for 20 monthes. I had Dish Network during that time period. I objected to the fact that I couldn't choose the channels I wanted coming into my home. So, I just decided until I COULD choose those channels I would save my money and do without! The Demise of Ronnie Earle
Agape Press
by Chad Groening
...A New York Times best-selling author is calling on authorities in Texas to do whatever it takes to remove Travis County prosecutor Ronnie Earle from office. Earle recently convinced a grand jury to indict U.S. Republican Congressman Tom DeLay, forcing the long-time Texas politician to step down as House majority leader. Richard Poe, who writes for FrontPage Magazine, says the charges against DeLay are "ridiculous," and that the Democratic prosecutor will continue to engage in political witch hunts if he is not stopped. "By stopped I mean removed from his position by one means or another," Poe explains. "I think there is some talk now of perhaps even pressing charges against him for some of his malfeasance." Poe contends unless Earle is stopped, there is little to prevent him from continuing his political attacks. "I don't think anything will stop him except giving him a taste of his own medicine," he says. "And fortunately Tom DeLay is one of the few Republicans who seems to have the stomach to do just that." Poe believes that if the voters of California were able to recall their governor and remove him from office, then Texans should be able to find a way to oust Earle.
Can only hope that these 21st century witch hunts are condemned for what they are.
Andy Rooney on "60 Minutes"
UPDATE: Nope, it is in fact NOT Andy Rooney's piece. I just discovered that this is listed on Snopes as an urban legend. I thought it sounded too conservative for Andy Rooney.....Here is his disclaimer from 2003:
About a year ago, I became aware of a more serious theft of my name and it is so hurtful to my reputation that it calls for legal action against the thief. Hundreds of people have written asking if I really wrote the 20 detestable remarks made under my name that have had such wide circulation on the Internet. Some of the remarks, which I will not repeat here, are viciously racist and the spirit of the whole thing is nasty, mean and totally inconsistent with my philosophy of life. It is apparent that the list of comments has been read by hundreds of thousands of Americans, many of whom must believe that it accurately represents opinions of mine that I don't dare express in my column or on television. It is seriously damaging to my reputation. {Everyone I know who read it, AGREES with it.....so in reality, it helped Mr. Rooney's liberal reputation as being a bit more in sync with the rest of the nation who profess to be conservative and religious.}
I don't think being a minority makes you a victim of anything except numbers. The only things I can think of that are truly discriminatory are things like the United Negro College Fund, Jet Magazine, Black Entertainment Television, and Miss Black America.
Try to have things like the United Caucasian College Fund, Cloud Magazine, White Entertainment Television, or Miss White America; and see what happens...Jesse Jackson will be knocking down your door.
Guns do not make you a killer. I think killing makes you a killer. You can kill someone with a baseball bat or a car, but no one is trying to ban you from driving to the ball game.
I believe they are called the Boy Scouts for a reason, that is why there are no girls allowed. Girls belong in the Girl Scouts! ARE YOU LISTENING MARTHA BURKE?
I think that if you feel homosexuality is wrong, it is not a phobia, it is an opinion.
I have the right "NOT" to be tolerant of others because they are different, weird, or tick me off.
When 70% of the people who get arrested are black, in cities where 70% of the population is black, that is not racial profiling, it is the Law of Probability.
I believe that if you are selling me a milkshake, a pack of cigarettes, a newspaper or a hotel room, you must do it in English! As a matter of fact, if you want to be an American citizen, you should have to speak English!
My father and grandfather didn't die in vain so you can leave the countries you were born in to come over and disrespect ours.
I think the police should have every right to shoot your sorry a~~ if you threaten them after they tell you to stop. If you can't understand the word "freeze" or "stop" in English, see the above lines.
I don't think just because you were not born in this country, you are qualified for any special loan programs, government sponsored bank loans or tax breaks, etc., so you can open a hotel, coffee shop, trinket store, or any other business.
We did not go to the aid of certain foreign countries and risk our lives in wars to defend their freedoms, so that decades later they could come over here and tell us our constitution is a living document; and open to their interpretations.
I don't hate the rich. I don't pity the poor.
I know pro wrestling is fake, but so are movies and television. That doesn't stop you from watching them.
I think Bill Gates has every right to keep every penny he made and continue to make more. If it ticks you off, go and invent the next operating system that's better, and put your name on the building.
It doesn't take a whole village to raise a child right, but it does take a parent to stand up to the kid; and smack their little behinds when necessary, and say "NO!"
I think tattoos and piercing are fine if you want them, but please don't pretend they are a political statement. And, please, stay home until that new lip ring heals. I don't want to look at your ugly infected mouth as you serve me French fries!
I am sick of "Political Correctness." I know a lot of black people, and not a single one of them was born in Africa; so how can they be "African-Americans"? Besides, Africa is a continent. I don't go around saying I am a European-American because my great, great, great, great, great, great grandfather was from Europe.
I am proud to be from America and nowhere else
And if you don't like my point of view, tough... DON'T PASS IT ON
The Biblical End Times
Read the full article here: Agape Press
>>>Gospel for Asia founder K.P. Yohannan says the recent earthquake, hurricanes, and floods around the world could indeed point to the imminent rapture of Christ's church. That is why he urges believers to get serious about living sacrificially and reaching others for Christ -- before it is too late.
In the wake of tsunamis, earthquakes, hurricanes, and torrential flooding -- not to mention pestilence, wars and rumors of wars -- authors Jerry Jenkins and Tim LaHaye are not the only Christians warning others that contemporary disasters may well be pointing to biblical prophecy's end times. As a passionate voice for Christian evangelism, ministry, and outreach, K.P. Yohannon is one Christian leader who sees in all these possible signs a clear challenge for the Church to get serious about fulfilling the Great Commission.<<<
Matthew 24: 32-35
Now learn the lesson from the fig tree. When its buds become tender and its leaves begin to sprout, you know without being told that summer is near. Just so, when you see the events I've described beginning to happen, you can know his return is very near, right at the door. I assure you, this generation will not pass from the scene before all these things take place. Heaven and earth will disappear, but my words will remain forever."
Mark 13:28-31 Both say basically the same thing.
Luke 21:29-33
Many "evangelical" Christians believe we are in the "end times". While many unbelievers scoff~~citing past centuries when believers thought 'their' times were the end times.
But it is the above passages which give credence to believers thinking we ARE living in the end times.
To understand, you must know who the fig tree represents.
It is the nation of Israel.
There has not been a nation of Israel for over 2000 years. Yet, the nation is re-born in a day in May 1948.
This rebirth of Jesus's nation started that millenial clock ticking. Then Jesus states that the generation that sees this re-birth of His homeland will still be living when HE RETURNS!
Therefore, time IS growing short as the nation of Israel celebrates their 58th birthday May 2006.
Hence, Mr. Yohannan is correct that we need to get out and evangelize. Therefore, no man, woman, or child will be able to say that they "didn't know the truth." Rather, they simply chose not to choose.....the free gift of everlasting life in God's and Jesus's presence.
Reigning in the ACLU
Read the full article here: Agape Press
>>>A petition drive spearheaded by the Center for Reclaiming America is mobilizing more than 100,000 Americans to urge Congress to pass a bill to curb the ACLU by denying plaintiff attorneys the right to collect attorney fees in lawsuits that target religion in the public square. The petition in support of legislation by Representative John Hostettler (Rep.-Indiana) calls for "a stand against the ACLU's radical agenda, which undermines our nation's moral and religious heritage."<<<
>>>Don Swarthout, president of the Kentucky-based group Christians Reviving America's ValuEs: "With this recent legal attack against New York officials' security efforts, Swarthout feels the ACLU's actions may actually be dangerous to the citizens of the city. "Now here is this threat that apparently is real enough that they're spending all kinds of money to try to prevent a bombing in an American city once again," he says, "and
the ACLU wants to defend the rights of the terrorists.
Iran's Leader Blasts U.S. 'Warmongers'
Declaration of War
Made On
September 11, 2001
Just who declared war on whom?
I don't remember America going to Iraq (or stupid Iran) and committing JIHAD on them~~~
NOT UNTIL AFTER they ATTACKED us.
Somehow, calling us warmongers is not only STUPID, it is a LIE.
The colossally
Stupid: Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
"We are not warmongers like U.S. leaders. They are warmongers. They are after war, but we are men of sacrifice.''
What hubris.
"The U.S. leaders - the president, vice president and other key leaders - were hiding up to three days after the Sept. 11 attacks,'' Khamenei said. "We are not like that. If a bitter experience occurs for this nation, God forbid, or if it is tested, we will wear military uniforms at the front of the nation and prepare for sacrifice.''
Yea, just like Saddam. OR Bin Laden~~who has been HIDING for FOUR YEARS!
~~yes, you "cowards" are especially good at sacrificing those children, those babies barely out of diapers. They are EASY to sacrifice; you bunch of child abusers. Just strap on some dynamite and send them in....."he (The colossally Stupid Ayatollah Ali Khamenei)
would put on military fatigues and fight to the death."
You'd think by now, these "people" would have figured out Americans are not so easily knocked to our knees. They made the mistake of thinking, we wouldn't retaliate after 9-11. That we would rent our clothing and weep and wail and do NOTHING. Japan made the same mistake on December 7, 1941.....
We did weep. But we are not going to lay down and be submissive while an alien religion attempts to take us over.
Fight to the death. DON'T THINK WE WOULDN'T.
I will NEVER revert to Islam. I will NEVER tolerate an Islamic government.
I am an American and a Southern Baptist. If I have to die defending my country and my faith, so be it. I too can lift a gun if need be and fire it~~without hesitation or equivocation.
Can there really be anyone in America who believes and supports this swill?
You are a TRAITOR.
God help you if these fanatics are successful in taking over the world. You will have received what you deserved.
Unfortunate for the rest of us, however, who did NOT deserve to be "taken over".
The Evils of Euthanasia
Oregon's Assisted Suicide Law is going up before the United States Supreme Court. It has ended up there because there is a question of legality in using prescription medicine as the means to terminate a life. This is apparently a violation of the federal law dealing with controlled substances. This alone SHOULD be enough to get this horrible law off of the books.
But the more important question deals with the issues of life and death. IF this law stays, then what will be the eventual repercussions? Many believe that the United States, which has the best medical research and provider care in the world, would deteriorate just as the Netherlands have done so.
" 'Doctors in the Netherlands have described situations where doctors have been basically using euthanasia as a quick fix because they don't know otherwise how to take care of patients,' Dr. Kenneth Stevens, vice president of
Physicians for Compassionate Care asserts. 'So it actually has a harmful effect on the development of new techniques to try to help patients.'
Already, he notes, a study on terminally ill patients in Oregon has shown that their level of care by doctors has deteriorated since physician-assisted suicide became legal in that state.' "
M.D. Hopes Oregon Loses Court Battle
Sounds like an "easy" out to me.....
Meanwhile the Netherlands have started to include the handicapped, and the elderly in their "legal" euthanasia. What's to stop them?
"Because once a price is placed on human life, the price goes down. " - Burke Balch
Ask the modern day Hitlers of the world if this is true.....you know, the Saddam Husseins, the Pol Pots, the Kim Jong-il, the Hamas, Islamic Jihad, and the Sunni leaders, and of course the good ol' Manuel Noriega's (whose name I had forgotten~~not in the news killing your competition, er enemies, you get forgotten! Now THAT is depressing. Ummm, that would make him a likely candidate! Find out why.....in the next paragraph.)
"In the Netherlands, although they started with purely voluntary euthanasia for people who were dying," states Burke Balch, director of the Robert Powell Center for Medical Ethics of the National Right to Life Committee. "They moved very rapidly to individuals who were not dying but were disabled. Then they chose those who were neither dying nor disabled but who were simply old. Then they moved on to depressed patients. Then they moved into cases where the patient hadn't given consent at all."
Holland's Inevitable Progress
Sounds like murder to me.
Wow, Hitler couldn't have done better! The Netherlands must be very proud of their contribution to the world. Death to those imperfect individuals.
Except there is one small wee problem here.
We ALL are imperfect. It is just more obvious in some than in others. EVERYONE has a handicap. Some people cannot spell. Some cannot add. Some cannot walk. Some cannot see. Some cannot speak. The list can go on and on.
So, if the Netherlands and Oregonians are going to continue to kill and graduate to killing those imperfect individuals; well, they might as well start with themselves~~save the rest of us the trouble.
Finally, Dr. Alan Carlson of the
Howard Center for Family, Religion, and Society points out something I have previously blogged: ..." as the American population ages and as health care becomes more expensive, so-called 'mercy killings' will become all too convenient." Agape Press
That means YOU Boomers!! This generation alone; of which I am the tale end of; will DRAIN the Social Security system as well as Medicare.
We better HOPE our government DOES find the Oregonian laws unlawful~~or we could be in serious trouble.
Just a thought.....
Secret Abortion
Proposition 73 can STOP your daughter's right to a Secret Abortion
from Agape Press
If Proposition 73 does NOT pass, then California minor girls will continue to have the right to obtain secret abortions. Of course Planned Parenthood is AGAINST this proposition. Their reasoning: the tired, trite argument that some girls will face serious repercussions from tyrannical parents.
Mr. Troy Newman states that "Proposition 73 would allow a minor to petition the juvenile court for a waiver (of notifying her parents of having an abortion)." So clearly credence was given to their (pro-abortionists) tired, trite argument!
Mark Salo; chief executive of Planned Parenthood of San Diego & Riverside Counties; then reasons, to get around this waiver concession for minors, that such a proceeding is too cumbersome for a minor.
"Think about it. What about the teenage girl who is pregnant and terrified...how is she going to navigate a complicated legal process?"
This legal process "is already set up in more than 30 states and it is working quite well," asserts 'Yes 73' spokesman Alvin Rhomberg.
What it boils down to is the determination to undermine parental authority. You, know~~advocating that it takes a "village to raise a child."
Except in this case, the village idiots are the ones being left in charge of the care of the villages' future~~the children!
Personally, I, and many others take our child rearing responsibilities quite seriously. I, for one, do NOT believe government can do a better job in raising my child. In fact, I seriously doubt they could successfully raise anyone's. Too many times they throw the 'baby' out with the dirty dishwater~~translation: they don't have ANY COMMON SENSE!
>>>Los Angeles radio talk show host Paul McGuire said on Wednesday, "the idea that the government or school system can give your daughter an abortion without your knowledge or consent is something that would happen in Russia, Communist China or Cuba, not America."
The popular southern California radio host told his audience this week that "parents, citizens and churches have a spiritual responsibility to vote yes on 73."<<<
Voting is your RIGHT and your DUTY. You cannot complain, if you do not get up, get out and vote. If you don't do it, someday, you WILL wake up to find you are living in modern day Russia. With NO rights.
What a horrendous legacy to leave your children and grandchildren.
Finally, it would be nice to hear from some women who have gone through abortions. Research is showing that MANY of them regret having the abortion. It would be nice to hear them speaking out, telling the truth about this issue~~the feelings of guilt, remorse, sadness, regrets......
If enough did this, the question of abortions could just become a non-issue!
~~~~Thank you Manateechik for the correction!! I did totally mis-read that paragraph!~~~~
