The Poor Among Us
Why is it that all the different types of governments that have abounded around the world during different periods of time, that not ONE of them was able to demolish poverty? What happened to those planned "utopias"?
Matthew 26:11
"You will always have the poor among you, but I will not be here with you much longer."
Why would Jesus say this? Why would God want this? With all our resources, shouldn't America have been able to demolish poverty by now?
The simple answer is no.
Perhaps mankind has never been able to build that perfect utopia because, basically, we tend to be greedy! Communism was to be THE perfect form of government~~abolishing poverty. Only, it too failed. The top dogs wanted it all. The "poor" became poorer and overworked as well.
Greed. It has destroyed many supposed utopias. Is America next?
>>>The Democrat's initial war on poverty, continued in too many ways by the GOP, have cost this nation trillions and served only to create a behavioral poverty that is nothing less than shocking.<<< Agape Press
I think it is also depressing. It is always more difficult to change the way a person thinks than to change the conditions they are in.
>>>What does the liberal -- presumably those who "love Jesus" and are Democrats -- want to do? Spend more money. And when money can be shown not to answer the problems that beset us? Spend more money.<<<
With a smaller middle class every year; we are becoming a nation of rich and poor only; there is less money for the government to utilize. The middle class has always been the backbone of any nation. Without them, you cannot have the large spending social programs. What is really needed is to "...establish a personal relationship with the poor and find out what they really need, hold them accountable to better their lives by taking responsibility before further assistance is given, and apply spiritual answers to the heart of the matter."
Will this destroy poverty? Probably not. God allows poverty so those of us who have means can help those less fortunate. It is OUR test to not only talk the talk, but walk the walk!
Means does not only mean financial! Many of us may not have money to give, but what of our time?

Government to reimburse Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Fund?
From: Baptist relief not interested in gov. funds, Reccord says

Baptist Press News for the latest news from Baptist Press!
I hope not. For several reasons! One that they point out in this article is how the "liberals" will scream about "seperation of church and state". Who wants to listen to all that screaming? Not I!
Secondly, the people associated with the Southern Baptist Relief are caring people. They are not this way just during times of crisis. They live their lives this way. You can't put a price tag on this; nor should you. They help because their belief system is such that "when you do this to the least of these, you do this to me (Jesus)." It is walking the walk that Jesus Christ demands of each believer. Because of this, it is a privilege to help those who need it.
Thirdly, SBDR fund should not take any money offered by the United States government because as soon as you do so, you are REGULATED. You will have to do everything they say. As a result, the SBD units would no longer be able to respond with the quickness they did after Katrina because of the government RED-TAPE! That would be a crime.
SBDR President Robert E. (Bob) Reccord shares these statistics with us: “We have more than 6,000 people from 38 states on the ground right now. We’ve fed more than 5 million hot meals, cleaned almost 6,500 major debris sites and provided 33,000 showers to victims and relief workers, so I think we’ve been very effective.”
“What we hear over and over again is ‘thank you for being the first on the scene; we don’t know what we would have done without [Southern Baptists].”
We want the Southern Baptist Disaster Relief Units to stay that way! Don't take any reimbursements!!!

How can you help further?
As I have blogged before, but will add this quote for emphasis: "Fox co-host and New York Giants football player Tiki Barber asked Reccord how viewers can help. 'Go to North American Mission Board or call 888-571-5895,' was his (Pres. Reccord) quick reply. He emphasized that '100 percent of every dollar goes right to the need. We don’t keep anything out for administrative costs.'"
This is an organization that knows HOW to spend a dollar effectively!
Ummm, the federal government could learn a lesson or two here.......well, maybe not since there are no Biblical incentives to keep them honest. Ouch.
